Our Wee Wedding: Ceremony

we have Scottish, English, N.irish, Australian, and American in this photo.

Our Ceremony was so intimate..
so perfect.

We woke up that day to the sun shining,
and it did not stop shining the entire day,
a Scotland miracle.

Upon arrival we had no idea what the protocol was,
as we had no rehearsal or run through prior.

The registrar asked us if I wanted to walk in by myself and meet Stephen at the front,
or if we wanted to walk in together.

We chose to walk in together.

This was such a poignant moment for us...

The typical view on relationships and marriage,
specifically in the christian faith
(my faith)
is that we begin our relational journey as individuals,
then come together as one in marriage...
but for Stephen and I,
in our own journey,
walking together as one has been the reason for success in our relationship
(and I don't mean that sexually speaking...ahem)

For many different reasons,
we have had to walk through this life as a joint force.
This wedding was not just about Stephen,
and it was not just about me,
but it was about us,
an important factor that is often forgotten during the process.

We were all smiles as we said our vows in front of our closest friends here in the UK.
Every time I look at that group shot I well up,
because those people,
that tiny group of people,
really made our day so special.

more photos coming next week :)

  5. i love that you both walked in together. this is what we are planning to do for our wedding, for similar reasons. did you know that it's a tradition in Sweden to walk in together, to represent the couple entering their marriage as equals, not one being "given away", and as a unit. i think it's beautiful. i cannot imagine any two people looking happier than you both do in these photos, thank you so much for sharing them with us!

  7. Gorgeous. Every picture is better than the last. Liz is one talented photographer! From everything you have said about your wedding and every photo you've posted it sounds and looks perfect. I absolutely love that the two of you walked in together. You should know that I, a girl who doesn't want a wedding because of all the ridiculousness that comes with it, would have one if it could be like this. Small, intimate, with the focus on what is truly important, the relationship. You and Stephen make a great team. I wish you all the best!

    1. Liz is so so good. She needs to be told more because she doesnt believe me ;) I will definitely vouch for a small wedding...it was so easy, so fun to plan, so stress free (finally) and when the day was over we werent left a. stressing about all of the money we spent b. feeling in debt to anyone for paying a lot of money for our day. I do love big weddings..i had one once and it was such a fun and amazing day...but the stress and the money factors leading up and after...its hard. But i really love attending big weddings..they are so fun. lol

  8. Those are great photos! I'm glad it was such a special day for you. I really like what you said about walking in together, and how it's not just about you (as the bride), it's about both of you together. That made me think about all the wedding shows out there, and you see the bride walking down the aisle, and all eyes are on her. And I, and maybe other people, don't think about the groom, and how it's a special day for him as well. So you've made a great point, and if I ever were to get married, I love that idea of walking together.

  13. Congratulations! Or as they say here in España - ¡Felicidades! I love that you had an intimate, personal wedding. And that you walked in together! My then husband-to-be and I walked down the aisle together at our (slightly larger than we would have preferred) wedding. It is still one of my favorite memories. I have a feeling it will be for you, too!

  28. You both look so happy in your photos. It just warms my heart to no end. I love also that you took things a little bit of a non-traditional route. Like walking down the isle together, him helping you into your dress, etc. It adds such personal touches to the ceremony that makes it special.

  30. My husband walked me down the aisle at our wedding in December. Granted it was spurred by other reasons but looking back I am so happy that it was something that we did together. Like you said, marriages are not about two individual people but as the couple they form together. What beautiful pictures and what a beautiful bride you make!

  47. I don't even have a man on my arm - nevermind one who wants to marry me! - but your posts on your wedding are really making me fall in love with the initmate wedding. I never wanted a huge wedding but there's something really special and romantic about only sharing your moment with your nearest and dearest.

You looking so happy [have I said that enough these past few days?!] helps to sell it too. I'm not one to yearn for other people's relationships but I hope I find something resembling yours eventually. You seem so perfect for each other.

    Beautiful photographs!

Take that immigration, true love wins every single time! -jb.
