Here and There

going back here soon

1. Jennifer Lawrence after her Oscar win. I have watched it about 5x. SO funny. "Sorry, I just took a shot..."

2. Thanks to a blog reader I am now hooked on the tv show The Following. Warning: do not watch at night, alone, before bed.

3. The Bachelor. My heart hurt for AshLee even though she totally got stage 5 clinger on Sean. Her level of intensity was just a little too much for his fun loving adventure spirit. (that last line was said with a bit of snark) I also knew she was going, because I may or may not have read the spoilers. It did not make it any less painful for us. And by us I mean AshLee and I.

4. I realize I just mentioned two tv shows in a row. Judge away. It is still winter here and it is almost March. 'nuff said.

5. I am not even done mentioning tv shows. I hope Grey's Anatomy is done after this season. It is time to lay it to rest. I also started watching Friday Night Lights per Bridget's recommendation. I like it. The people are attractive, even though they are clearly in their late twenties playing 16 and 17 year olds. Also all of their burger and shake eating makes me hungry on the reg.

6. There are going to be some surprises hitting this blog soon. Some of them may make appearances on instagram first (instagram name: meganacrosspond)

7. I am slowly coming to terms with the fact that in a few months time Stephen and I will be permanent US residents. I am also coming to terms with the fact that it will probably take us close to a year to transition and get on our feet. Stephen will have to learn how to drive on the right side of the road, we will need a car, jobs, social security number (for Stephen), bank accounts, health insurance (that is going to be such a rude awakening for Stephen...and myself now) and the list goes on. It feels exciting, but also a little scary, but it is oh so worth it.

  1. Go ahead and add Scandal & Revenge to your winter TV list. I can't peel my eyes away from the lies and lust! Such good TV they've got going on these days. Makes these European winter days a little less mundane. But it's totally not helping my quest for a fit bod. Ya win some, ya lose some.

Prayers to you and Stephen as you begin the transition to 'Merica. May it be a smooth one, love!! xo

  2. Am so envious - take me with you, don't leave me stuck here with bad weather and the telly!

  3. This much TV watching is only done by those with a real passion for living vicariously through other people. Respect.

Feel free to take ME to the US with you guys. I'm so very excited for you guys, although that still weirds me out that I live vicariously through people in blogland. Circle of life and whatnot.

Please, please, please film teaching Stephen to drive on the other side of the road. As a left hand driver myself, I really need to see the ensuing hilarity. Thanks in advance! X

  4. I'm a high school teacher & my students keep harassing me to watch The Following. My goal was to catch up on it while my husband was away this weekend, but reading your post I'm thinking that may not be the best plan!

  5. I wish I could erase my memory and go back to watch FNL.

Clear eyes and all that ballet.

Can't wait to see AshNut on the woman tell all. Should be the most dramatic wta ever!!!

  6. I' m thinking they are trying to wind down Grey's, and I know it's probably time, but I love Christina Yang! I can't imagine my life without her!

  7. We love The Following too! It's SO good!! We watched it last night right before we went to bed, then our fire alarm started beeping and scared the crap out of me, so of course I start crying and my husband thought I lost my mind, haha! I have got to stop watching this show at night!!

  8. hi megan! i am a long time follower, but first time commenter. i love your blog! have you seen girls? i am a wee bit addicted...

    ReplyDelete
  9. one of your surprises is a puppy. boom. I'm calling it now. and if I'm wrong, I'll be super disappointed, so just keep that in mind...

also, I can't remember if you addressed this before - has canceling your fancy wedding adjusted your wedding date? just thought about it because you mentioned coming to the US (fingers crossed that means all of your visa stuff is going well?).

  10. I just saw that Jennifer Lawerence clip. Really funny. I like that she's such a normal girl. She's pretty cool.
My sister watches 'The Following'. I watched moments of it, and it's violent for sure. I'm surprised that it's on Fox, with all the violence!
That's a pretty big change from going from the UK to the US! I'm sure it's exciting. I don't remember if you mentioned why you guys are coming back to the US, but it's pretty cool that you've had the experience of living in both countries.

  11. I know I haven't been commenting a lot but I'm reading along. I've been enjoying the Following but wonder how long they can keep up the premise of the show? LOVE Friday Night Lights... Totally cried when I watched the series finale.

And I can't wait for your move back to the US.... Its going to be so exciting!!!! Are you moving back to CA?

    ReplyDelete
  12. Yes FNL! I always said it was the best show on television when it was on. There was one season that was a bit lackluster, but I forget which one. The series finale did me in. Also, Mr. and Mrs. Coach are my all-time favorites. I'm a Nashville fan now b/c of Connie Britton.

I've been watching the Following which is weird b/c I hate scary things. I do like it though. I have one issue although I don't know if you're caught up, and I don't to spoil. Basically I think it's a bit silly to constantly have people you've been watching be plants/working for the bad guys. It's fine once or twice for the surprise, but then it gets silly. I just keep waiting for them to change sides. :) I only watch it during the daylight.

  13. I am so excited for you guys to move over here to the land of sweet, supportive friends and family. I feel like living over there has been such an island for you and coming back will be just what you need. Plus the ocean and sunshine?? Even more what you need. To-do lists aside, coming home will be awesomeeee.

  14. Ahhhh if someone doesn't remind me to start watching The Following or The Americans, I'm going to scream. Not that I really need another show to add to my life; I feel like I'm planning everything around what time How I Met Your Mother or The Walking Dead come on. Or Revenge... Or New Girl...

Obviously, no TV judgment from me.

    ReplyDelete
  15. i just started watching friday night lights too!! It gets way better in the next couple seasons (I think I'm on 4?) and it's awesome because I can convince my boyfriend to watch it too since it has football in it. Win win!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm going to agree with the recommendations for Revenge and Scandal. Oh, and The Americans is pretty good, too. But I just started watching Scandal two days ago, and I'm only 4 episodes from being caught up, because I can't turn it off. Seriously. Sadly, Grey's has another season committed. I've been watching since the beginning, and I agree- it should have ended a year or two ago... but I keep watching.
And I owe you an email back (I know... I'm so ashamed!) but YES to the troubles readjusting, and we already had cars, health insurance, bank accounts, and Paul had a job already- but YES. Ugh.
Just today I suddenly wished I/we could go up to Oban. Oh well. At least I get to go back to D.C. in a few weeks??

And YAY for changes soon!!! ;)

  17. we've been watching the Following too, and i wouldn't watch alone when my hubs was traveling. Oh, and Homeland! We just started with that, and it makes me want to wait at the mailbox for the next netflix dvd. too much? maybe.

i've decided i need to be bff with jennifer lawrence. did you see the video of her and jack nicholson?? best ever. http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/entertainment/2013/02/jennifer-lawrences-oscars-interview-interrupted-by-jack-nicholson/

  18. Love The Following!! I will not watch it alone either..made that mistake on the first episode-woke up my kids and put them (my 17 year old refused-haha) in bed with me. Still could not sleep until my husband got home, after he watched it he understood why I did that!

    Good luck with everything!!

  19. i love grey's but it is time for it to end. just let them buy the hospital and have a good happy ending.
have you figured out where in california you want to live? i vote for san diego so i can have someone to go eat burgers and mexican food with all the time. plus, i am a great puppy-sitter. ;)

  20. SO WORTH IT. Surprises?! OH yay! And AshLee's goodbye was so sad. I think Sean makes a big mistake! I wanted her to win. But alas, I also looked up spoilers haha!

  21. Oh Meg, this post speaks to me on pretty much every level. Happy to have helped in your new love affair with The Following. I can't get enough of it. Might be developing a celebrity crush on broody Kevin Bacon. And speaking of celebrity crushes - Jennifer Lawrence - wow - have you watched the clip where she meets Jack Nicholson yet?

    One word. Amazing.

  22. Friday Night Lights = awesome. I have two more episodes left in the series. And seriously, they eat all the time and still look awesome. #hollywood

  23. I always watch The Following alone...but during the day I have to admit that much. ;)

    xoxo

  24. Hubs and I have been watching Friday Night Lights too :) I love me some Tim Riggins. It's the bad boy obsession I tell ya, I don't even like long hair on guys. Damn that man.

  25. OK if you're looking for yet another mindless show, watch Vampire Diaries. Make sure you get past the incredible cheesy first 3 episodes.. and into the 4th one before you decide if its worth your time, cause the first 3 are horrible. But its addicting.. and White Collar too! That's a good one.

It freaked me out the thought of driving on the left side of the road in the UK! Just being in the passenger seat, I had a very hard dealing with being on the "wrong side" of the road, I can only imagine how Stephen will adapt..though he's not me, so it might be a lot smoother. ;)

  26. I will never judge you for talking about tv shows...I have too many to name thanks to the snow. Oh well...come Spring our habits will change right? Hmmm.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I like Jennifer Lawrence's attitude. She seems like she has a good head on her shoulders and understands how silly Hollywood can be.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love Jennifer Lawrence, I have a total girl crush on her! And The Following is so good! I can't see it lasting for many seasons though. There were so many twists in this weeks episode, I love it. Really, I can't get enough tv either so I would never judge. Best of luck with all of the transitions coming up! You always handle yourself with such grace, and I am sure this will be no different!

  29. I cannot wait for you to live in my STATE!!!!! It's like, I'll feel your presence or something amazing. (creepiest comment ever)

  30. Wait, hold UP. Is Grey's Anatomy for real not off the air yet? I totally thought everyone on that show has had been skewered by a pitchfork or blown up in a gas explosion or drowned by now.

    ReplyDelete
  31. loved Jennifer Laurence's dress AND speech! I think she is ridiculously adorable.

    ReplyDelete
  32. it may still be winter here but yesterday was GORGEOUS in Glasgow wasn't it?! I may or may not have had to take my coat off. Brilliant! But...it won't last.

We've decided to make our expat experience permanent but I'd be lying if I didn't say I miss the good 'ol USA and the sunshine. It should be illegal to go without sunshine as long as I have.

It may take time to re-patriate but just think of all the adventure's ahead. All the American things you've missed and being close to your family. They'll be there to help. Which will make it all so much better.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yay! You'll be over here! :)

Yes, the health insurance thing shocks my fam from over the pond on the regular. It's like...yes, we do pay for it. We have to. Sorry. ;)

    Cheers!

  34. Per #7 - does Stephen have a plan as to what type of job he wants to do when he moves to the U.S? My boyfriend and I are aiming to get to the States in September (from Italy) and we've been trying to figure out what his options might be in terms of a job. He'd like to open up a restaurant at some point so we're thinking even just starting out in a serving position to get used to how the food service industry works in the U.S.

  35. hell yes it's going to be worth it, if only to watch trashy tv and hang with us (;

  36. I keep hearing about The Following! I've gotta start watching it.

  37. The Following. Nope. Not gonna do it. My imagination is way too overactive for that sort of thing. Without fail, after every scary movie/show I watch (cause I have the curiosity of a cat) I can't take a shower by myself for at least three days AND forget about doing that whole downstairs/racing back upstairs thing at night. Nope. xoxo

  38. totally gonna be so much work and so strange setting into a new and different life... but definitely worth it

  39. I'm so excited y'all will be in the states this year!!!! YAYAYAYAY! Jennifer Lawrence? LOVE her. and you.

    ReplyDelete
  40. omg thanks for sharing the jennifer lawrence clip!! she is so unintentionally funny! one of my students went skiing in Aspen over february break and was riding the ski lift with her and we were like, OMG what was she like in real life? and my student was like ... nice. but weird. i was like, sounds about right.

    & yay! USA!

  41. I just got back from a trip and the first thing I did was catch up on my TV shows and blogs (totally agree re: Grey's Anatomy btw) after being away from my computer for 5 days... my priorities are clearly on a similar par to yours. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. The Following is amazing.. I recommend Revenge, also!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Jennifer Lawrence is dah best. She's my new celebrity BFF haha - agree with the following. SO GOOD. And yeah, I think they just need to end Grey's Anatomy, don't get me wrong - I love it as much as the next girl but it's has gone down hill something awful. It's embarrassing now...

  45. Duuuude, the only time we watch The Following is at night. Before bed. And if there is more than one episode to catch up on, I can kiss my normal bedtime goodbye because we're catching up on that ish. Anyway, I can't believe Grey's Anatomy is still on.

    ReplyDelete
  46. no.2- the following... amazing! funnily enough it's what hubs and i have been watching in bed before bed time and I end up with covers over my head. but still i can't stop myself from watching. we have one more episode left and the suspense is killing me!

no.7- i totally feel you! we're about to go through the same thing and what's just slightly annoying, i feel like i just did all that and was starting to feel settled in london. oh well, life happens for a reason hu? i keep meaning to shoot you an email about this move of ours since it's to l.a. and your home turf. maybe i'll get it done this weekend ;)

  47. It is completely acceptable to follow an unholy amount of TV shows so that you can live vicariously through others to deal with stress. You are not alone.
