After getting a few questions here and there about what my makeup/skin care routine is,
I decided to go ahead and share the products I use and love with all of you.
Some of the products are recent additions to my life,
and some I have been a faithful user of for years.
1. St. Ives Apricot Scrub: It is cheap, and gets the job done. Now, everyone has a different skin type. I don't typically ever get break outs or white heads (knock on wood). But I do get black heads occasionally on my chin or around my nose, and this solves that issue for me. Stephen and I both use it and love it. I know a lot of people go out and spend a lot of money on certain special products for skin care, or buy organic etc, but for me, since I have never really had a problem with my skin, I tend to just stick to what works for me. I understand everyone has a different preference.
2. DDF Ultra-Lite Oil-Free Moisturizing Dew: I LOVE this. It is like the perfect amount of moisture for my face. I typically have dry skin when the weather changes, and my skin will literally suck up the thickest of lotions, but I have found this one to be really great without being oily..hence oil-free.
3. Laura Mercier Foundation Primer: I used this before I apply the silk creme foundation. This helps the foundation adhere evenly to the skin. You should always use a foundation primer before applying any type of liquid foundation.
4. Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation: I asked one of my favorite makeup artists back in the day, what foundation he recommended. He said either Laura Mercier or Armani. Both pretty pricey, but I obviously went with the more affordable of the two. I am a HUGE liquid foundation fan. I absolutely hate power foundations. This is just my personal preference though, and yes I have tried both. I think you get the best full coverage with a liquid foundation, and if applied correctly (same with a powder) it wont look too thick or cakey. I swear by Laura Mercier, and have used this foundation now for probably close to 10 years. It also lasts forever, so while the initial price might seem a little expensive, it goes such a long way. I use cream ivory in the winter (sad face) and beige ivory when I have my normal color back.
5. Susan Posnick ColorCorrect (C2): I was recently turned on to Susan Posnick by a friend of mine, and then was sent some makeup of my choosing from the company. It is now all I use, along with my other daily products. This Colorcorrect serves a double purpose. It is a concealer (for dark under eye circles, blemishes, etc) and a highlighter for the T-Zone area. I use this after I apply my foundation.
6. Susan Posnick ColorMe (Peony and Ginger): Love these two. A few people asked what blush I use; it's Susan Posnick ColorMe in Peony. I use the Ginger as a bronzer. I am not a huge fan of the applicator on the bottle, but I just take the top off and use a blush brush instead of the applicator.
7. Laura Mercier Eye Shadow Duet: I love this combo for a smokier eye, or I put it on lightly and mix it with some gold tones for a more day time look.
8. Susan Posnick Coloreyedefine (jet liner and moonshine): I use this liner when I am going for a softer look as opposed to maybe a liquid eyeliner. I use the moonshine on the inner corners of my eyes as a highlighting technique.
9. Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder: I apply this after I have applied all of my makeup (foundation, blush, bronzer). It just sets everything and gives your skin a really soft even texture, and highlights in just the right places. I love it.
10. Laura Mercier Long Lash Mascara: I use this mascara when I am just running around during the day, meeting friends, etc and want to look more fresh faced. It goes on pretty light and not clumpy. It also makes my eyelashes seem super long.
11. Covergirl Lashblast volume Mascara: I use this for when I am taking photos or going out at night. It goes on thicker and obviously isnt as great of quality like the Laura Mercier (I mean duh, it's only 4 bucks) but I sort of love it and have used it forever.
12. Susan Posnick Coloressentials (dubai): Probably some of the best lipstick I have ever used. It is really mousturizing and lasts a long time. I sometimes use it on its own, or ill sort of mix a couple lipsticks together until I get the color I want.
13. Maybelline Colorsensational (Pink Punch): I am not seeing it online, but I am pretty sure you can get it at target (US) or Boots (UK). This is the pink lipstick you have often seen me wearing. Sometimes I mix it with Dubai to tone it down.
What is your make up go tos?
Are you a liquid foundation girl or powder?
Any of the above you might give a go?

I'm too lazy to wear makeup but that mascara is like my favorite.
ReplyDeleteLooks great!!! Thanks for sharing your beauty tips.

I use St. Ive's as well! It's amazing. I use Burt Bee's cleanser as well, Garnier BB Cream foundation (it's super light), and Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette.
ReplyDeleteI do apricot scrub too! I feel like an old person, but yah...gets the job done. Wish I could say the same about black heads. :D
ReplyDeletecheers.
I love the apricot scrub. it was actually stephen that got me using it!
Deletegirl... i wear so little makeup that i can still use the SAMPLE foundation from my wedding.. which was two and a half years ago (: and it's a teeny tiny estee lauder sample... but, really, if i am going to wear makeup, it's liquid foundation all the way!
ReplyDeletealso... you should really check out coconut oil for that dry skin of yours- talk about cheap and long lasting (;
ReplyDeletelooooove laura mercier! and your makeup always looks gorgeous btw! xx
ReplyDeleteThank you so much!!
DeleteI love this! As someone who always looks flawless, you showing your makeup routine is such a treat. I love Laura Mercier. She was my first glimpse outside the green samples of Clinique. You've inspired me to take better care of my skin and use more make-up. Currently, I barely use any.
ReplyDeletei am a sucker for beauty products. so great. already wrote down in my little notebook - laura mercer foundation. see you this afternoon sephora xoxoxo. thanks for keeping me pretty meggie!
ReplyDeleteI love Laura Mercier! The primer and foundation and invisible powder are my absolute must haves...and a little goes a long way. It truly is worth the price tag in my opinion (and I am usually a penny pincher). I, too, love St. Ives. I also LOVE my clarisonic Mia. I have to use some medicine from the dermatologist because I would break out otherwise (I use epiduo for anyone interested)
ReplyDeleteMy other favorite Laura Mercier product is the water perfecting mist. It sounds similar to the moisturizing dew you are talking about.
I'm not too picky about my eye makeup...sometimes I just use cheap Maybelline...but, I do like Laura M's products too. (She should totally send me some free stuff for promoting her stuff!!! HAHAHA!)
and you and I just have so much in common ! :) I am with you, i usually always use cheap stuff on my eyes. That laura mercier one, along with a goldish one, are the only ones i use. otherwise i just buy super cheap stuff from the drug store. lol
DeleteI use a facial cleanser by DDF and absolutely love it! I will have to give their moisturizer a try when I finish my current one.
ReplyDeleteFor one reason or another I completely missed the Covergirl LashBlast bandwagon. I'm probably the only girl who's never tried it! I do however LOVE Tarte's Gifted mascara. My lashes have been so much healthier since I started using it. They dont get dried out or break! I highly recommend it!
Get on it! I actually discovered lashblast from my mom! she always has the best stuff.
DeleteI'm with Christin. I'm the laziest when it comes to makeup, so we're all lucky that I manage to remember to put on tinted moisturizer before coming into work. But I'm a fan of that lipstick color! Cayoot.
ReplyDeleteI may need to try that lash blast. I am planning on hunting for a new mascara (and hairspray if you want to know all of my plans for the weekend) and I have been wanting to try that one. I clearly lead a super exciting life.
ReplyDeletelast blast has been my go-to for years! i've never had a real need for foundation until now and i've been doing my research to find the best one, but the trial and error of it is a little frustrating. i keep hearing good things about the laura mercier foundation, so it must be a winner ;)
ReplyDeleteMeg, I just came across your blog. I was looking for ideas for monthly goals, and your post about them popped up. I loved what I saw so I stuck around. I am really enjoying this! I really appreciate what you say in your "About" page about keeping this a positive space. I think you have a great vision for your blog, and I am really looking forward to reading more of your posts! Thanks for sharing. :)
ReplyDeleteP.S. I was doubly excited when I saw you were getting married. I LOVE wedding planning details. Not because I particularly want to get married myself, but just because weddings and their details are SO BEAUTIFUL! Can't wait to see what you have in store.
Hi Cynthia! Welcome! Thank you so so much for the kind words about my blog! Wedding planning is SO fun!! I usually update on wedding stuff every monday :) I am trying not to bombard my poor blog readers with wedding stuff...but it is kinda hard not to... ;)
DeleteI LOVE Laura Mercier! My skin is so spazzy -- it's usually oily and wants to break out, but then if I try to keep it too clean, it dries out. LM's foundation, primer, and concealer are perfect for me because they're so light and don't clog my skin. They're juuuuuust enough coverage to be pretty; even though they're a little bit pricey, I'd rather spend my money on those products rather than eyeshadows, etc. I've never used the LM mascara, but when I'm buying my own mascara, I buy that lashblast. It's not perfect, but it's pretty good for about 5 bucks. What I'm using now, my mom bought me and it's the Dior mascara. It is WONDERFUL but I just can't bring myself to buy it for myself. I'm too cheap.
ReplyDeleteI am so with you. When it comes to foundation ill pay the extra cost..but i have so many drug store eyeshadows that i use on the reg too...but ive been using that Laura Mercier one a lot recently..probably because its winter and its a little darker. But my right aid (from the US) eyeshadow has been with me FOREVER and i love it.
DeleteI love the Lash Blast mascara - but right now I am obsessed with Benefit's "they're real"! Makes my little eyelashes look pretty darn good if I say so myself!
ReplyDeletei'm a big st. ives apricot scrub fan...an old classic! i recently just started washing my face with coconut oil though and it's kind of the best thing ever. plus smells great! love all your recomendations!
ReplyDeleteI only wear liquid foundation too - only way to go for me! I'm excited to try out the Susan Posnick blush!
ReplyDeleteSo, I already use 1, 3, 4, 9 & 11. WEIRD.
ReplyDeleteI've been using covergirl mascara for the longest time and just switched to the "24 hour" one, in the black bottle. It literally lasts forever.
You have excellent taste in makeup my friend.
Daryl
I'm pretty sure I keep Laura Mercier in business. Her oil-free tinted moisturizer is my one true love. (Glad to see you're helping the cause, too!)
ReplyDeleteyou're beautiful!!!
ReplyDeletethank you so much for posting your makeup routine!!!! you are stunning and i'm gonna try me some Laura Mercier! xox
ReplyDeleteI love this post! I need to step up my game in the makeup world... it probably doesn't help that 99% of the time I put my makeup on in the car, huh? Thanks for the tips, may check some of these products out!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the Laura Mercier makeup! I actually don't use foundation, but I love their tinted moisturizer, I think it's one of the best one's out there! Same as the illuminating setting powder xo

I'm secretly jealous of all the girls who seem to have these amazing skin/hair/makeup routines worked out. I never know what to do! Thanks for the suggestions!
ReplyDeleteYour routine is real and good for health also. I think it is better.
