You may notice my URL is different.
It is seriously about time.
After 72+ hours of tears and sending dramatic e mails to Bobbi because it was not re-directing,
or letting us sign into my accounts to fix it...
it FINALLY is working.
(thank you to Gentri and Shayln for also trying to help...I was obviously scrambling)

I have a funny story behind my living4london URL though...
It was the year 2009,
and it had been decided that going to live abroad was going to happen.
I started researching different schools in England that had good reputations,
and a program that suited my needs.
All of them were in London,
except for one,
which was in Nottingham.
I loved the look of the University of Nottingham,
it seemed to have more open space,
and a lot of parks and fields.
I didn't really want to live in the city of London,
so this seemed like the perfect fit.
Now,
as an ignorant American,
I really had no idea what the United Kingdom was,
I didn't know Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland were two different countries,
I didn't know that Ireland was surrounded by water and you couldn't drive there from Scotland..
and I didn't know that Nottingham was not a part of London...
You know how hollywood is IN Los Angeles?
Or how I am actually from Agoura Hills,
but I say I am from Los Angeles because technically I am...
I thought the same concept applied to Nottingham and London.
So I created my blog URL living4london.blogspot.com
Then I moved abroad,
and quickly realized,
oops...
Nottingham is like a 3 hour drive north of London.
It is not a part of it at all.
It would be like saying Palm Springs is in Los Angeles.
fail.
I left the URL because I didn't know at the time you could change it,
and then I was too embarrassed to admit I wasn't IN London...
so I just let it go.
Actually,
other than flying through Heathrow,
I have only been to London three times.

I know what you all are thinking...
"cool story Megan,
needs more dragons.."
www.acrossthepondblog.com is the new URL.
Also my instagram is Meganacrosspond now..
I need to start trying to keep things consistent for my own sanity
or this is a foreshadowing to a total blog overhaul...

Ha "cool story Megan... Needs more dragons". Any story could use more dragons, I'll agree with you there.
ReplyDeleteglad you finally had technical success.
ReplyDeleteand yeah, probably could've just photoshopped a dragon onto big ben - would it really have been that hard...?
Haha! It all makes sense now :) x
ReplyDeleteI know. try not to think differently of me
DeleteBuuuut you're going to need another name when you move to California...
ReplyDeleteIm gonna keep it! im too attached to ever let it go. well at least for the next few years or sk
Deleteit does need more dragons.
ReplyDeleteYour emails really weren't so bad! Haha. I'm sooooooooo glad this worked out and color me excited for what's coming up! Love you, girl! <3
ReplyDeletei mean...i say im from SF because no one knows what Danville is until i'm all "have you seen mrs doubtfire?" so i don't hate.
ReplyDeleteI feel ya. I grew up in Calabasas/Woodland Hils, but hated to say I grew up in the valley. So instead, when people ask I'm always like I lived in LA kinda close to Malibu.
ReplyDeleteHooray for the new URL! Love it!
This so sounds like something I would do. Haha. My sense of direction is absolutely pitiful! After spending several months in the Philippines, I returned home and couldn't bring myself to change my URL or blog title. Two years later, I still haven't :) You hare doing better than me!
ReplyDeleteso embarrassing. Ill probably NEVER change this URL now after all of that trouble.
DeleteHa, that must have been a shock! Congrats on moving the URL successfully--I can't imagine how much work that must have been. Have a great Wednesday!
ReplyDeletei'm fairly certain there are more than two people who think palm springs is in LA (;
ReplyDeleteand HOORAY for this headache to be over!
Ha ha Mega, no, Nottingham isn't IN London - but I am sure at that point you were with the vast majority of people in the UK anyway. Our sense of geography is as EQUALLY atrocious. x
ReplyDeleteMega? Meant MEGS - my spelling is just as bad as my geography... obvs.
DeleteThough "Mega" is a pretty cool name to be called, is it not? ;o)
I know. im so embarrassed looking back now. and actually, one time i went to starbucks they wrote "mega" on my cup..and i was like really?
Deleteahhh just found your blog. geography can be hard! haha. i did study abroad in london and lived/worked there for a bit after college. loooove it, but never went up to nottingham. looking forward to reading more of your adventures!

Eh Nottingham is a place to miss. Although i did love the University. Welcome!!
DeleteHah, this story. I know how it can feel to scramble and sweat (or maybe I just sweat) over internet shenanigans NOT connecting and broken links. I mean, I don't know code. I know simplicity. I don't understand the world wide web, just the pretty stuff. So when you last posted about changing names and things not linking up, I even got scared. Mainly because I didn't want anything to be lost...
ReplyDeleteNow that's dramatic. But I'm glad it all worked out :)
Wait I think I love you more because of that story.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad that everything worked out. Not that I was much help, but if you need help in the future, I am here! I know how stressful that is. I didn't realize by changing my blog url not just from .blogspot.com but to another .com I would have to change all of my links, everywhere! Whoops.
ReplyDeleteI love this story. I didn't realize there were two Irelands either! What?! (ok, not two, you know what I mean)
i always assumed that you lived in london at some point before i started reading--duh i am stupid!
ReplyDeleteyou are not stupid. I am just a liar.
Deletehahahha..... alright well so embarrassingly i had no idea northern ireland and the republic of ireland were different countries... i mean i always just call in ireland #seriousteacherfail
ReplyDeleteIt occurred to me that you don't really talk about school much anymore. or if at all. Did you finish the degree? I seem to recall it was psychology or something along those lines? Just curious...
ReplyDeleteI finished my masters degree september 2011 in cognitive neuroscience and neuroimagomg ;) posted some grad pictures when it happened!
DeleteImaging* stupid phone
Deletetomato/tomaaato...doesn't matter but glad you got it all worked Meg :)
ReplyDeleteyou have had too much new year drama happening (visa's n url's)...i'm wishing you peace~xoxo
Awww yay! I'm so sorry I couldn't get it to work! Haha! Bad news? I suck. Good news? Haley rocks! It's WORKING!!!! :) Lol! Glad you're back lady love. xo
ReplyDeleteBobbi* Duh. Brain is fried today and that's what I get for multitasking. Fail. :)
DeleteThis made me laugh! Glad you got it all sorted out, though :) xo
ReplyDeleteCool story, Hansel.
ReplyDeleteWait, more dragons?! No no nononono, you mean, more pictures of Stephen, right? hubba hubba.
ReplyDelete{Disclaimer: I'm just being the voice of your target audience and yes, I'm a married woman...LOVE YOU my dear Megan who is across the pond, I think? I'm not exactly sure what I've learned today...} xoxo
Heck I don't have things consistent and that's okay that way. so far. ;)
ReplyDeleteAll this time I thought you were in London for school. Our entire relationship is built on a throne of lies.
ReplyDeleteNeeds wayyyy more dragons. I'm laughing in bed in the dark at that.
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I always thought it meant that your were waiting for the weekend to get down to London or something.... But now I know the truth, and it changed everything I know about you.
Well, no, not really.
I thought you partied in London every weekend too! lol :) It is ok. I call mine Alamo Adventures these days and I hate driving downtown near the Alamo. Too many tourists.
ReplyDeletehmm.. that is all very interesting. I get the ireland being an island deal but some parts are just not vibing in my little orange county mind. I barely know where hollywood is in LA so yeah. haha I love the new names and titles though. A new season has begun for ya girl :)
ReplyDeletehahaha, this is way too funny! SO glad you got the new URL up and running :)
ReplyDeleteI didn't know Hollywood was in LA. and I visited LA. 6 months ago. *facepalm* I did know about Northern Ireland, however. I suppose I am not a completely lost cause :)love your blog, safe travels to N. Ireland!

ReplyDeletehahaha you're the best! :)
ReplyDeleteI love this story. I lived over there for school for a year and had no idea at first that Nottingham was so far away either!
ReplyDeleteWait, won't you be lying with your blog name AGAIN when you go back to the USA? Haha.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great story, and its great that you still decided to go! I studied abroad/worked abroad while in college in London and got to travel to Scotland, and I absolutely fell in love. Since then I have been itching to get back, but I don't know how :(
ReplyDeleteFinding a job for someone who doesn't have much experience is hard to get, but I am determined to get there!
I will definitely will following you, so glad I found your blog!
consistency is HUGE for us OCD people. :) It's one of the things I regret, that my blog name, my twitter name, my url... everything is slightly different and it gets confusing! I totally get it. I hope to make similar changes to my stuff one of these days.
