Friday and that time I used a t shirt as a weapon.

The other night Stephen and I saw the horror movie The Pact.
I love me a good scary film.
And although this one had some glitches in the story line..
it scared the crap out of me.

When we got home I was still reeling from fear..
I went into the living room to turn off the light and grab a pajama shirt from the clothes rack (aka our "dryer")
and when I walked out of the room Stephen was standing right there, in the dark..
and because he is so dang tall I didn't see his face.
I screamed with some choice words,
and swung that shirt like a mad woman(you know, because a t-shirt is a VERY dangerous weapon).

Then I cried.

Now, I'm pretty sure stephen fears for my ability to protect myself if I encounter danger..
like if given the choice between a knife and a shirt im gonna grab the shirt.
please.
I would obviously just curl up in the fetal position and close my eyes,
because if you close your eyes the bad man cant see you.
DUH.

so go see The Pact,
and say hi to these awesome ladies,
who probably took karate or something to fend off evil..
lame.

I would consider Christine a good friend of mine..
even though we have never met in real life..
yet...
It is only a matter of time because she happens to live in my hometown of Los Angeles.
She is stunning, with an equally attractive significant other,
and on top of being beautiful on the outside,
she is the sweetest thing on the inside,
with an incredible talent for capturing the beauty of life with photographer.
You will love her.

"I've always loved expressing myself - emotions, thoughts, ideas or even just what I could see - through art. As a little girl, I would sketch in the backseat of our green suburban while we drove across country; I always found that I was most inspired whilst looking out the window at the world passing by. And this fascination has continued, years later, in the form of photography. It fulfills me, entertains me, keeps me on my toes, and never ceases to amaze me at just how beautiful this world is when you simply stop to look."

Devon has been a long time blog friend of mine now,
her and her hot hubby are your carefree, laid back, SO-CAL surfers.
I am obsessing over how they just re-did their backyard
(have you ever heard of a vertical garden?? mind.blown)
and this starfish headband DIY..
It doesnt get much more southern california beach living than these two.
I love it.

"Hey there. I'm Devon. Have we met? If not, come on over and introduce yourself! My blog is called The Mermaid Chronicles. It's about my adventures in surfing and in life. Today I did a post about how we gave our small backyard a big makeover. Check it out!"

LWD and Julia Roberts

little white dress: Zara (cant find it on the site anymore, but like this alice and olivia one here | Jewelry c/o Poshlocket: necklaces: here+here  Bracelete: here + here+here   Earrings: here

I don't know how it started,
but I have been obsessively watching Julia Roberts films...

I can't stop.

Every time I think of a movie I want to watch,
it ends up being one that Julia Roberts is in...

Thus far I have watched..
Steel Magnolias (if you want to be utterly depressed and or need a go cry, this one is for you)
Pretty Woman (needs no explanation)
Eat Pray Love (I have seen it three times now, and this time it was like watching a totally different film..it SPOKE to me)
Step mom (the scene where she made life size prints of the children to surprise Susan Sarandon..lost it)
Sleeping with the Enemy (one of my all time favorite crazy lover borderline lifetime channel movie)

If i could get Erin Brockovich online I would watch that next..
(the only one Stephen has stayed awake for is Sleeping with the Enemy)

The following are my favorite quotes from Steel Magnolias and Eat Pray Love (I love me a good quote, and when one speaks to me I write it down immediately..I am aware this makes me dramatic/cheesy)

Steel Magnolias:  "I would rather have thirty minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special"

Eat Pray Love: I've come to believe that there exists in the universe something I call "The Physics of The Quest"- a force of nature governed by laws as real as the laws gravity or momentum. And the rule of Quest Physics maybe goes like this: "If you are brave enough to leave behind everything familiar and comforting(which can be anything from your house to your bitter old resentments)and set out on a truth-seeking journey(either externally or
internally),and if you are truly willing to regard everything that happens to you on that journey as a clue, and if you accept everyone you
meet along the way as a teacher, and if you are prepared - most of all -to face (and forgive) some very difficult realities about yourself....then truth will not be withheld from you." Or so I've come to believe.”

I know.
chills.

Summer in Winter Outfit

Shirt: Ralph Lauren Via Macys (similar here)  Shorts: New Look (similar and want these ) Bag: A little shop in scotland (love this one here SO much) | Watch: ASOS (old but lovin this   one  )  Jewelry c/o Poshlocket , bracelets:here + here+here  earrings: here

Wearing these shorts in Scotland,
is a WHOLE different experience compared to wearing them in southern California...
In LA, my leg hair doesn't grow in as soon as i put them on
I don't have goosebumps 24/7
and the color usually highlights my tan, instead of reflecting off the pale glow.

Ironically, I bought them in Scotland.
I think at some point people just say eff it (except here they definitely say the actual F word),
and wear summer clothes in summer, even though it is actually 55 degrees out and raining.
I would know,
I am one of those people now.

Longueville House

our  room view

I named him Wilbur..it seemed fitting

drawing room

oh that's nice

where the magic happened. jk. that is sinful.

Last week Stephen and I escaped to the irish countryside for a couple of days.
We had read incredible reviews on longueville house,
but it really exceeded our expectations by a thousand.

You drive down many narrow country roads,
and then up a very long tree-lined dirt path
until you reach the manor.
It rests on HUNDREDS of acres of lush green farm land.
All food is either home grown from their own farm and expansive gardens,
or brought in from other local farms.
Talk about fresh and insanely delicious.

Horses, sheep, and dogs just roamed around the grounds,
so needless to say I was happy.

Each room is decorated with its only individual flaire,
but always keeping with the old manor decor.

It is family run,
and the cute little family lives in a house behind the manor,
and the husband is the chef.

Stephen and I got REALLY lucky,
because we arrived on a thursday and were basically the ONLY people in the house.
They upgraded us to a suite and treated us to a 7 course meal.
I may or may not have unbuttoned my pants at the table towards the end of the meal..
super classy.

Tea and coffee was plentiful,
and we basically had our very own staff to cater just to us.
We had appetizers in the drawing room,
dinner by the fire place in the library,
and after dinner tea and coffee by the fire in the drawing room.
Then breakfast served to our room the next morning.
Talk about romantic.

We strolled through the gardens and picked fresh rasberries off the vine,
talked to Wilbur, the horse,
and took in the views.

If you ever find yourself in the very south of Ireland,
I highly recommend making a little detour to Mallow co. cork,
and staying at Longueville.

Fridayyyy

While we are frolicking in the country fields of Ireland,
stepping in sheep poop and nuzzling puppies
(that would be just me)
I have some lovely ladies to keep you entertained.

Jamie is the lovely blogger behind awkward and awesome..
which i feel like sums up my own life..
(awkward and awesome..in case you missed that)
She blogs about her every happenings as her and her hubby transition to a new place

Hi Across the Ponders... I'm Jamie and I blog at Awesomely-Awkward. I'm a 20 something wifey whos husband just graduated college (don't worry, I'm smart too). Looking forward to someday moving out of middle of nowhere Montana to somewhere, well anywhere else. Until then, I blog about all the awkward things life has to offer. I also spend all my free time designing and making jewelry. I keep my blog like my life, light and fun. I try to throw in some wardrobe (or lack thereof), recipes, crafty time, or anything else that tickles my fancy. I hope you'll stop by and take a peek into my crazy life sometime!

Britt is an Austin TX gal who has an amazing ability to incorporate vintage finds into current on trend outfits.
She has a great eye for style and design.
I am also particularly fond of this post.. ;)
She also has a sweet hubby and FOUR fur babies.
I heart her and you will too.

Hi there! I'm Britt from Secondhand Magpie.
I live in colorful and quirky Austin, Texas with my husband and four fur children. Thrifting is my passion, and in such a creative and eclectic city, there are always treasures to be found! I like to mix my thrifted pieces with current trends to keep it fresh and to allow me to stretch my closet that extra mile. Shopping isn't my only vice though. I have a problem with not bringing home every animal I find, drinking bubble tea 6 times a day and wearing nothing but maxi dresses and wedges. What, that's not an acceptable lifestyle? An old woman in a muumuu covered in fur with perpetual brain freeze?
My life, simply put, can be ridiculous, and in addition to my style, I like to muse on the random happenings of life in Austin. So come, stay awhile, and bring a lint roller.

Believe me, it has been a challenge! A year later, I am 30 years old and 30 lbs fluffier! Yikes! Can somebody please create a yummy food filter for Pinterest?
My blog is now focused more on my quest be healthy, happy, and become a true runner!

Dublin to Cork

Tomorrow Stephen and I are flying to the Republic of Ireland (the south)
to stay at this lovely manor house outside the city of Cork.

We have to wake up at 5am..
(It's no secret I don't really function properly before noon...and by that I mean dont talk to me before noon or you might get punched in the face..)
and fly from Glasgow to Dublin,
then rent a car and drive three hours south to Cork.

I am just thrilled to get out of Glasgow and go relax in the country for a couple of days.
As much as i love riding the sub with people who are drunk at noon,
and spit on the floor of the train..
I am really looking forward to fresh country air,
rolling hills,
and farm animals.

Plus I just REALLY love the southern Irish accent.

I have been sort of in a blogging funk lately..
or life funk..
Does that ever happen to you?
I think the best thing to do in those moments is get out of your daily surroundings..
take a break from the internet,
and re-charge.

See you all on Monday!

Introverted? me?

Shirt: Ralph Lauren (Similar here and on sale) | Jeans: H&M (similar here) | Sunglasses: TopShop, old | Watch: Asos (old, but i really want this one)  | Jewelry c/o Poshlocket: (here + here+here+here)

"Introverts, in contrast, may have strong social skills and enjoy parties and business meetings, but after a while wish they were home in their pajamas. They prefer to devote their social energies to close friends, colleagues, and family. They listen more than they talk, think before they speak, and often feel as if they express themselves better in writing than in conversation..." - S.C. Quiet

I found this quote on a daily read of mine here..
And I was like..YES
that is me.
Contrary to what you may think based off of the fact that sometimes I take pictures of myself,
as seen above.

I would bet money that most bloggers are probably slightly introverted..
feeling more comfortable behind the screen.
But that could be just me talking out of the neuroscience side of my brain.

For a long time I tried to deny my introverted tendencies..
convincing myself I was extroverted because all of my friends in LA were..
and when you are working in LA,
being extroverted seems like a necessary job requirement.

When I moved to the UK,
and left my old life behind,
I was finally able to embrace my more introverted nature.
I didn't feel pressured to go out every night,
or attend every social function,
and I could pick and choose the people I wanted to hang out with.
(Don't ask me why, but I never felt like I was able to have this much control over my social settings when I lived in LA)

I can carry a conversation in groups,
but I prefer one on one time with people.

I love getting dressed up and attending a large social gathering,
but like to stay for only a few hours then come home and quickly peel out of my clothes and get into comfies as fast as possible.

I re-charge by being alone,
and if I am spending days or weeks in the company of others,
even family,
I need to take at least half an hour a day to myself or I begin to feel anxious.

This could be why I never had roommates,
and other than living with a significant other,
I've always lived alone.

I think it's fun to reflect on the type of person you are..
to better understand yourself..
 know your limits
and cater to your strengths.
It makes me, a better me.

How would you describe yourself? Introverted or extroverted?
I have so many friends that NEED to be in social settings to feel re-charged.
They are constantly on the go.
I find it so amazing, and try to soak up some of their extroverted gifts,

but then end up eating a tub of ice cream in bed while i watch reality tv and shake from over stimulation.

Summer time..but not AT ALL.

Happy Friday!
Today I am wearing a yellow blazer, sandals, and sunglasses and it's basically the dead of winter outside.
I have decided to pretend it is summer anyway..
because its the only thing that gets me through the days,
that,
and watching the real housewives of Orange County.
They always make me feel better about my life.
Stephen and I also just carried a TV and TV stand up seven flights of stairs..
and by Stephen and I, I mean Stephen.
Only to have our power box thing not work.
Today is one of those days..
just walk away now..

Spend some time with the following ladies who are probably not eating their feelings and sulking.

Blogging has honestly been a saving grace when it comes to being an expat.
It has united me with people all over, who are experiencing the same highs and lows of expat life as I am.
Jay is one of those expects that I've "met" via blogging.
She has been living her expat life in West Africa,
but VERY soon she will be moving her adventure to Norway!

Hello Across The Pond readers.  I'm Jay and I've been chronicling my husband and I's adventures overseas at From There To Here.  A couple of years ago we packed up our comfortable life in Canada for Gabon in West Africa.  (Don't worry - no one knows where that is however, you may vaguely recall that Survivor was once filmed there.)  We've spent the last 2 years experiencing the highs and lows of life in the third world but now we're ready for a new challenge.  In one week's time we'll be leaving Gabon to start a brand new adventure in Norway.  Feel free to join us!

So I LOVE Sarah,
but omg her basset hound might be the cutest dog in the whole world..
LOOK AT THAT FACE!!
 I die.
Sarah is seriously one of those girls where I feel like we would be really good friends in real life.
We share a love for good food, reality tv, dogs, and social networking...
perfect match if you ask me.

Hi there Across the Pond readers! I'm Sarah and I blog over at Total Basset Case.  I am a 27 year old basset hound mama to Floyd, wife to the Mister and interior designer residing in Cincinnati. When I'm not blogging I fill my time with crafting, designing, photography, cooking (currently in love with truffle oil), and drinking wine. Oh, and Diet Coke.  Definitely a lot of Diet Coke.  And then some more eating and cooking. I love a good meal plan, Mexican food, blog stalking, instagramming, and quality evenings on the sofa with the Real Housewives. Stop on by and say hello for a bit, we'd love to have ya!

Is it weird that I feel a special connection to Canadians?
I don't know if its because living in the UK 90% of the time people think I am Canadian..
or 90% of the time i think a Canadian is American..
It could be because I lived in Canada for 3 years when I was younger..
but I digress.
Cassie and her hubby are the cutest little Canadian couple..
currently living in Utah!
(all you Utah BYU peeps holler at your girl cassie!)

Bonjour amie (hello friends)...Ok ok I am not really french, just pretending to entice you.  Although I am Canadian and we are bilingual up there and my husband is from Montreal so....I'm basically French and exotic!
I blog at Come What May. Title inspired by some pretty epic Moulin Rouge duets sung in the car with my husband Ben and just enjoying the journey and loving love no matter what comes along.

I am an addict....In the areas of TV, nail polish and diet coke. I love movies and cry in most of them.  I am an advertising major at BYU in Utah which means yes, I have met Don Draper and Jeff from the Bachelorette!

So come and visit my little corner on the world wide web
I love new blog friends.

Florida

SO I forgot to tell you all about that time Stephen and I went to Florida after California..
I know you all have been wondering what happened on that mystery trip for WEEKS now.

confession: I did not take a SINGLE photo while we were in Florida.

bad blogger.

Truth be told, we really went to FL to spend time with grandmother..
which meant we stayed within a 2 mile radius of her house at all times.

And when we did drive the 1 to 2 miles to a restauraunt,
we thought we were going to die.

Because grandma should NOT be driving.

S and I white knuckled it every time we got in the death mobile.

My Grandma lives in Boynton Beach,
about 20 mins from West Palm Beach..
she lives in a gated community comprised of 2000 homes..
it basically makes up the majority of the area..
and the minimum age requirement to live in one of those homes is 55...(for serious)
and I think you have to be jewish too..
although i dont think they outrightly say that..
but im pretty sure it's true.

S and I were the youngest people everywhere we went by about 40 years.

I did get some good shopping in though..
which is what grandmas are for right?
Spoiling the grandchildren?

Here is the thing,
Shane and I are the only grandchildren on my dad's side
(he is the only child in case that went past you)

So every time my grandparents would come into town,
they would take shane and I school shopping.

Back in the day,
before I had any concept of money,
I used to just throw everything I wanted in the shopping cart.
My grandma tells the story of the time i took every item of jewelry off the rack and tossed it in the cart like it was no biggy.
I NEEDED 100 PAIRS OF CLIP ON EARRINGS
and some jelly sandals.
(don't worry, she made me put the jewelry back)

Now I feel a little awkward about letting her buy me things..
I start to sweat and get flustered..

not that it stopped me from picking up some new items..
I'm not an idiot.

but I wasn't running down the aisles of limited too grabbing as much as I could hold
(mainly because I don't shop at limited too anymore..which apparently is now known as Justice? RIP)

Stephen was a little nervous to meet the infamous renee..
My grandmother is NOT easy to please
(just ask every single waiter/waitress that had the unfortunate pleasure of serving us)
but Stephen completely won her over.
She just adored him.

I walked in the room and S had given her a hug and kiss on the cheek and she was all
"I'm just necking with your boyfriend"

she is a feisty one that Renee.

And that is what happened in Florida.

NEW ITEMS!

During my month of non stop traveling,
my little shop got a bit neglected.
So I have given it some TLC the past few days and added some bracelets (after a few requests, and a month of working out design)
and some new colors.
All of my pieces are designed to be either a simple statement,
or the perfect layering piece.

Hope you like them!

Go here to take a look.

Yay for Friday

I am really looking forward to this weekend because I am going on a much awaited blate...
(oh and the olympic torch is coming here today...NBD)

Lauren from Aspiring Kennedy and I have both been living in the UK for..
a long time now.
And we have consistently managed to JUST miss each other every time we are in the others city.
(She is in London, England and I am in Glasgow, Scotland)
This has happened about 5 times now.

BUT NOT ANYMORE
(DRAMATIC CAPS)
Because Aspiring Kennedy herself is making a special stop in Glasgow on Sunday to come dine with me.
I can't wait.

So I will leave you with two wonderful ladies that maybe are near you,
so you can blate it up!
And a couple wonderful shops to purchase something for said blate
(because I may or may not have gotten a couple new items for meeting up with Lauren..what? I'm nervous..)

"Helloooo there Across The Pond readers! Real quick I am going to pretend I am Megan for a second..only because I want her life right now and her legs. Yup! :) Ok...I'm done..back to being me.
My name is Jenna (does anyone else get really weirded out when they have to talk about themselves?) and I blog over at The Life of the Wife. I mostly yammer on about my life, my baby, and beauty & fashion. In my previous life (ie before baby) I was a makeup artist, and I am still OBSESSED with everything that has to do with beauty products. My husband calls me a hoarder of them..I call myself a "connoisseur"...it just SOUNDS cooler.
I just opened my new jewelry shop, NEON & NUDE. I love making jewelry that you will have forever. Jewelry is the bright spot of an outfit. I mean, what is a plain-white-T without a pop of COLOR? Nothing I tell ya. Nothing! :)

Silent Valley

me and my bitches

Last Friday Stephen and I had a picnic up at the Silent Valley.
It's a breathtaking spot just a few miles from his hometown of Kilkeel.
The mountains, the forests, the water, the rolling green hills..
it really is a magical place to hike..or in my case..stroll.

We ate by the water in that first picture,
and watched his dogs play..
and in honour of the queens diamond jubilee I dressed in my red white and blue.

I really love being in Ireland (north or south)
I find the people so incredibly friendly,
and the whole place smells like farm (which i find sorta peaceful)
what? You dont find the smell of cow poop calming?
weird.

It has been given the name, Emerald Isle, for a reason.

Northern Ireland is by far my favorite country in the UK.
