| 1|2|3 more pretty paper on my pinterest here |
The second step in making the wedding official
(after announcing it on your blog..)
Is the Save The Dates and Invitations.
I knew I wanted something simple,
pretty,
soft,
with a little extra oomph...
Like a toned very down version of something Rifle Paper Co.
I don't know if you all know this,
but paper goods are expensive.
Like whoa.
Enter in the greatest gift ever...
Whitney, a fellow blogger and long time reader of ATP, contacted me a couple weeks after I got engaged saying she would love to help me with my save the dates and invites.
And help me she did..
Working together over the course of the past three months,
she custom made my STDs (hehe) and Invitations.
She did such a beautiful job that I have asked her to do the menus, order of service, and place cards.
She listened to what I wanted,
sent me multiple drafts and e mails confirming,
responded in a timely matter (which is a HUGE deal to me)
was kind, patient, and just a great person to work with over-all.
I really could not thank her enough for her generosity.
It actually makes me get emotional.
I don't know if its because I blog now and wasn't aware of this world of paper and typography before..
I mean, I JUST found out via twitter that papyrus font was so out.
gasp.
But does it seem like this stuff has become a much bigger deal over the past year or so,
or has it always been this way and I was just living under a rock?

Can't wait to reveal the final paper products to you guys!

That was so nice of her! Can't wait to see the finished product! I actually designed my own save the dates (won't be sending them out until December, though), and just getting them printed from a professional store. I'm not sure about my invites yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd hope this isnt' stupid, but what's papyrus font? If it's so out I want to make sure I'm not using it! Ha!

Hello! Congrats on your engagement. I love love love your story, and I am living vicariously through you and your wonderful adventure abroad and your studly accented tall man of course :) I also love all these wedding posts, you have great taste and everything you've posted so far is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteDo you think you might do a post about second weddings vs. first...how it feels to you, any differences, etc? You have a unique perspective and was hoping you might share it.
@sixtet- hi! Thank you and thank you so much for reading! :) Actually yes, I definitely intend to do a W1vsW2 post. I'm still figuring out how to approach it, but it has been something i have thought a lot about over the past few months...probably longer. Its also something i always wondered myself in regards to others who have been re-married, so i know you are not the only one who is curious. I am still sort of discovering new things and emotions in regards to a second wedding, so i think once i can sort it all out and put it into words than I'll do a post about it. Thanks for reminding me to get to work on that! :) xxx
ReplyDeleteThis is so exciting Megan - every step is one step closer to being S's wife, eeeeeeeeeek!!
ReplyDeleteCannot wait to see your beautiful STD's (haha!) and invites. And so special that Whitney is helping you out - again, what would we do without the blogging world?!
x
Thanks for your response! Looking forward to it :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for your response! Looking forward to it :)
ReplyDeleteI think maybe it's always been expensive. Maybe that's why paper is supposed to be the one-year anniversary gift between couples. I always thought that was really weird. Who buys paper as a gift? Of course I was thinking like a pack of college-ruled, 3-hole punched paper. ha! BUT I think stationary and the like has grown in popularity in the last year or so. Which is interesting since we're all communicating via technology now anyway. Maybe it's a way for us to keep ourselves grounded. :)
ReplyDeleteOh! I cannot wait to see your STD's (heh). Seriously I'm living vicariously through you. Ps... papyrus is out? Oh frack.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing of her! I'm also now starting to find out how darn expensive paper products are for save the dates and invites - it's actually sort of ridiculous :/
ReplyDeleteYou may have just solved my invitation dilemma - will definitely be contacting Whitney sometime soon! Thanks for spreading the news :)

Since we got married right at the end of college (babies!!), I had just finished a papermaking course in school, so I asked my professor if I could use the studio after hours, and I made the paper for our invites! It was a blast, since papermaking is my zen, and we punched little holes, tied tiny ribbon, and everyone commented on how unique they were- hopefully "unique" was a positive!!
ReplyDeleteI bet yours are lovely, and you're right- picking the shade, tone, texture, etc. of the paper is just as important as the font and script size!!
can't wait to see what they look like.
ReplyDeletei remember thinking how insanely expensive some invitations were especially when they weren't even that nice. so i decided to make my own.
yes i was mad. and i had a meltdown when i realised there was a typo on directions bit, i mean i only noticed after making like 60!
It definitely feels like it's become a bigger deal lately. Like fonts are trendy now. Google "hipster fonts." I did it as a joke, not expecting anything serious to come up. Alas, I was wrong. Hipsters are crazy serious about their typography.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited to see what the final product is. Obviously it is going to be amazeballs.
ReplyDeleteWow what an amazing gift! Can't wait to see the finished product. I'm sure it's gorgeous!
ReplyDeletePapyrus is out? you just shook my world upside down. -Heidi
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness I bet your invites and STDs are amazing amazing! I know they're so expensive I found mine on Etsy :/ I can't wait until your wedding!
ReplyDeleteI think paper-related stuff has become such a big deal lately precisely because we do so much through technology. Getting something printed is becoming something special...even giving real paper cards seems to be reserved for special occasions these days! http://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2012/10/07/social-media-shifting-co_n_1946234.html?ir=Canada+Style
ReplyDeleteOMG! You didn't know that papyrus was out? As if! You totes live under a rock.
ReplyDeleteI have no idea what that font even looks like.
THE sweetest. If it's anything like above...they are going to be lovely. I wouldn't be mad if you sent me a sneak peek :)
ReplyDeleteOoh exciting!! Can't wait to see!!
ReplyDeleteshe sounds awesome! I love those pink ones in your pic too!

what an amazing gift! haha yeah.. interest in typography has exploded in the last year or so. i totes had papyrus as my AIM font back in the day. sad to see it relegated to the ranks of comic sans.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see them! I bet they look absolutely amazing!
ReplyDeleteEEEE! I LOVE pretty paper goods and, based on what you've taken your inspirational cues from, I think yours are going to turn out particularly magnificently. Can't wait to see what the talented Whitney has concocted1
