The hunt for the perfect wedding dress has been a bit...
frustrating.
I have a very limited budget for a dress.
note: if you want to have a lot of money to spend on a second wedding, don't have a first wedding...
my words of wisdom to you..
you're welcome
my words of wisdom to you..
you're welcome
Really though, even if I had a bigger budget, I probably wouldn't spend a lot of money on a wedding dress.
As I was doing dress research online I came across a lot of articles about the "recession bride."
Brides are less inclined to spend a lot of money on a wedding dress today, than they were about five years ago.
This obviously has resulted in department stores such a J.Crew, Anne Taylor, and Nordstrom to jump on this trend and create wedding dresses without the heavy price tag.
Even designers such a Vera Wang have caught on and started partnering with the likes of David's Bridal to produce a more budget friendly dress line.
However, while the selections in those stores are great, I have yet to find something that is "me,"
and still fits with having a very traditional church wedding in Northern Ireland.
I tried on dresses in both Edinburgh and Northern Ireland,
and everything was just a tad out of my price range
(and REALLY out of my price range when I would do the exchange rate..ouch)
And on top of all of that,
I am limited to a certain type of dress.
Due to my back problems, I cannot have a dress with a corseted top;
so nothing that is structured, boned, and supported through the back.
Fret not though ladies,
I could feel your worry forming.
I have found a solution.
I am having my dress custom made by a wonderful designer in LA who is willing to work with my budget.
I don't want to say too much yet because we are in the very beginning stages of planning,
but I am excited...
and nervous.
Having a dress custom made can be risky.
I probably won't see the end result until close to my wedding,
and being that I live in Scotland and she is in LA,
I won't be able to have one final fitting (I'll be home in December for, hopefully, the first).
My life dress is entirely in her hands.
The pictures above are the over-all feel of what we are going for :)
*Can't wait to reveal it all to you on the big day!
So now my question to you:
What was your dress experience like? Any of you go the custom route? Was it a happy or sad ending? Did you direct a lot of your budget towards your dress, or did you put that money towards other things you felt were more important to you, and pay less for a dress?
Tell me everything. I could talk wedding dresses.all.day.long.
*next week i'll be posting a glimpse of our wedding website and announcing the actual DATE!

I was in the same boat as you with not seeing my dress for MONTHS at a time. No worries about the fit though, the week of the wedding you won't be able to eat a thing so it'll fit (or even be to small!) for wedding day. I ended up getting my dress at a fraction of it's original price because it was the last one of it's style, and a zero petite. Tiny part of the overall budget! My mother-in-law got her dress custom made 2 weeks before the wedding and it came out so gorgeous. The fit was perfection and that made her look and feel so glam on our wedding day. I was so happy for her :)
ReplyDeleteI got my dress custom made as well! It's the way to go for sure- just make sure not to feel bad about getting exactly what YOU want, not what the seamstress wants :) Be picky...and pushy if needed! Good luck!
ReplyDeleteI only had a six month engagement, so I went dress shopping twice in the first week I was engaged. Some people told me I was going to have to buy off the rack (no thanks) and some told me that I really should buy a dress that weekend if I wanted to ensure that it would come in on time. Needless to say, this added some stress to finding the perfect dress. It was difficult because I never got the burst into tears - this is my dress moment. But I ended up actually buying the first dress I tried on and was very happy with it.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get the dress of your dreams, Megan!
ReplyDeleteI was so stressed shopping for my wedding dress. I had to find it while in Canada and I had 1 day --- yes, ONE day. In the end, I think that helped me a bit. I didn't stress over tiny little details nor did I find it necessary to try on a billion dresses. In my first appointment, I tried on a dress that flattered my body, that fit the feel of our wedding and that I liked. I went for it and was completely happy with it.
As for budget, my Mom was paying and of course, I didn't wan to break her bank so I would find something with the budget she set. We came in well under budget and I think we were both happy about that!
I don't know why monogamy sounds like a bad word, it's too early for me to be up and reading posts -that's my excuse.
ReplyDeletei love that you have my friend shannon (bottom right) on your board. Love the whole feel of your wedding gown you're going for.
ReplyDeletei went to one store in my podunk town and my sister pulled mine out of the midst of heinous looking dresses. It was only $450 (which I later sold on oncewed for $325). so my search was over. it was probably the least expensive part of my wedding.
can't wait to see your dress!!!
I found my vintage, never-worn, dress on the rack at a consiegnment show I grew up going to. It was perfect, and with some significant alterations it still cost less than my husband's suit!
ReplyDeleteMost important is for you to love it, and to know that Stephen will love it because you're in it. :) And, my god, we all know you're going to looking frickin gorgeous in whatever you wear!
Love what you're looking at in dress style!!
ReplyDeleteLess than a week after I got engaged, I heard that a bridal shop in town was closing and they were having a big sale. My mom, sister, and I went just to check it out, and we were the only people there. Everything was between $100-$500, so we grabbed literally everything we could find that might vaguely be acceptable. After trying on about 20 dresses, I tried our favorites on for a second time. The second time I put on *my* dress, I knew that was it. It was nothing that I envisioned before putting it on, and my sister was so excited that she had been the one to find it.
The best part? It was a $3,400 dress that we snagged for $500. It fits perfectly, so no alterations needed!
everything else about my wedding was so nontraditional (no wedding party. in Italy. small. no church. etc.), so for some reason I really clung to the idea of getting my dress in the traditional manner... ya know, Say Yes to the Dress style.
ReplyDeletei was initially frustrated by the whole experience since Nick conveniently proposed a mere five months before the wedding (okay, to be fair, he didn't KNOW he was proposing only five months before the wedding. that was obviously decided later.), i was getting all these "you waited until NOW???" responses from the stupid bridal boutique chicks. i started shopping the week after we got engaged. slow your roll, boutique nazis.
but then i went into a bridal salon and just picked out every single dress i liked without looking at any price tags. my dress was the last one i tried on, and i knew it was it. no tears. but that didn't surprise me. (back then, i wasn't much of a crier. now? google chrome commercials=waterworks) and it happened to be the cheapest dress in the shop. still wasn't all that cheap. but well within my budget.
so there's my dress story. not the most original, but it's mine.
p.s. hope you enjoy this throwback to the novella comments of our early days.
Hello! I am a first time commenter. I hired my wedding dress and was really happy with it. We had a VERY limited budget and decided to spend the majority of our budget on our honeymoon (Florence) and a custom made bed, well worth saving the money in other areas! So excited for you, I love love love weddings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post. I'm excited to see your wedding gown. My dress shopping experience was fab - I went to one shop, found the perfect dress, and ordered it. It came custom made from Spain, and cost under $1500, which was my max budget for the thing. My bff, however, who is getting married in November went to about 15 different dress shops, tried on 1014081957295730945820458 dresses and finally 'settled' on one because it was the cheapest. And it's ugly too, but she didn't listen to me. =( Wait... that makes me sound like a bad bff. But really, 15 dress shops? All out of state. It was a lot of driving and carrying those damn dresses.
ReplyDeleteI think that style you have in the photos will look so so good on you!
ReplyDeleteI am interested about what your first wedding dress looked like because sometimes I wonder if people look at their wedding photos are wish they had picked a different style - and you get to do it all again!
I think I spent 10% of our budget on my dress. Which seems like a lot, but I had dreamed of i my whole life and still love my dress. :)
You will literally look beautiful in any darn thing you put on - but I hope that your dress turns our just the way you dream it will!
I'm sorry that comment was full typos! Goodness!
ReplyDeleteI think that having a back like that on your dress is so perfect for you, so it all works out. it's going to be gorgeous. and you get to have it designed for YOU? such fancypants.
ReplyDeletemy dress story is complicated too: I went shopping the weekend after we got engaged because there was a big sale. I found one that I would be happy with after alterations, my grandma bought it for me, done and done.
but then I started having second thoughts about it because it wasn't really what I wanted. I just settled cause it was $100. at my fitting in May (for my July wedding), I broke down in unhappy tears, then started having nightmares about it and then was like what.the.hell, I'm buying a new dress.
so I went and found one that was more than I wanted to spend in the first place, but was exactly what I'd always hoped for. it came in on the Wednesday of wedding week, I got it altered over night and I picked it up after my rehearsal dinner on Thursday.
bada bing bada boom.
I have zero experience with this but my mother insists I rent my dress because you don't need it. Like...whatever, mom.
ReplyDeleteI had a VERY small overall wedding budget, so I really didn't want to spend a ton on a dress. I tried on a lot of dresses, and none of them felt like "me." I thought I would love a giant, fluffy, princess type dress, but I just didn't feel comfortable in any of them. I wanted something simple, timeless, and that I could dance in! I ended up buying a brides maid dress in ivory from a local boutique and it worked out perfectly. And it was only $140!! Of course, the crazy lady had me buy it two sizes two big b/c she convinced me that since my wedding was 8 months away I could gain weight and it's easier to take a dress in rather than let it out! Ridiculous. Doesn't she know girls lose weight before their weddings??! So I ended up spending like $115 just getting altered to my correct size. Foolish, foolish. But I was very happy with my dress. :)
ReplyDeleteLoving your style of dress Meg!
ReplyDeleteI shopped around for different styles that I liked and tried them on and then I had it custom-made too - it was half the price and made perfectly for me!
Definitely the best decision I ever made!
x
Oh I love the look you're going for!! I didn't spend a lot on my dress (like $900), but I loved it because it was made out of english netting & i literally put it in the washing machine to wash it. I wish my friends would borrow it for their weddings just so i can see it again. People need to share dresses more! My priorities at our wedding was dancing & photography, so I put my money there and got an awesome band. Nobody remembered our homemade $300 budget on hydrangeas from Sam's anyways :)
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you've managed to find a solution. I was all prepared to give encouragement and be like "don't worry, Megan. You have awesome taste and persistence, and in the end those will be the tools you use to find your perfect dress...because it exists!" but apparently that is unnecessary. On to words of encouragement about your current situation, I don't have any direct experience in wedding planning (unless Pinterest boards count), so I can't tell you about my (lack) of dress buying experience, but I really hope it all works out for you. I'm sure your dress will turn out even better than you imagined!
ReplyDeleteMy dress was green. As you can imagine finding a green wedding dress is nearly impossible. I didn't have a dressmaker make mine directly but it came from a range were only 2 were made in my size (out of a range of 4!!) So it was almost made just for me. I'm also dying to find out who bought the other dress and what story it has.
ReplyDeleteMy dress budget was £100 and I spent £80. We had a tiny budget overall and I really wanted to spend the money elsewhere.
Lovely dresses! can't wait to see the final result! It will all be ok :)
ReplyDeleteyou'll look good in anything, lady!
ReplyDeletexo the egg out west.
this does indeed sound frustrating..... sigh. but all the greater will the triumph feel when you are successful!
ReplyDeletei love the gossamer and ephemeral feel of the inspiration you posted; very unique and more interesting than most traditional wedding gowns.
good luck on the hunt!
http://dallianceswithsuitsandskirts.blogspot.com/
i had mine based on a dress and then little alterations made and it was totally what i said i didn't want. but i fell in love with it and i knew jonny would love it too so it was a done deal.
ReplyDeletealthough in a way i wish i could have had three so all of my inner brides would have been happy.
omg i love all of those inspirations at the top. and can i please see it before the big day. like on skype or something? k thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! And those dresses are gorgeous. I can't wait to see what the final dress looks like!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with customizing your dress!
ReplyDeleteJust be careful!
I got my dress from J Crew and it was gorgeous... But my alterations lady didn't take it in enough and it was a strapless! So I was uncomfortable the whole day and looked a little wider than I was! But I'm sending positive wedding dress thoughts your way. It will turn out great :) And you know what, the day wasn't any less special because of it. Though I am still peeved about it to this day. :D
I bought my wedding dress for $250 on Craigslist. Seriously. I'm that cheap.
ReplyDeleteI think getting a custom made dress is the right way to go if she can work with your budget! It will be one of a kind and you'll be so beautiful!
I love LOVE the inspiratioans for your dress, I think they look like "you". Can't wait to see the finished dress on your big day!!
ReplyDeleteI just bought my wedding dresss actually, eeeeep! I went to two bridal appointments and found my dream dress right away. It was a tad more than what I wanted to spend - but works within our budget. If you're interested is seeing it :) - it's the Wtoo Mimi gown. My mom is going to help with alterations and we're going to switch a few things up on it - like take off the flower and add a beaded sash - I Can't Wait to wear it this June!!
That dress style will look Beautiful on you! So excited for you that you found someone to design your dress for you....it will all work out perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI spent little on my dress but I still Loved it. We focused the majority of our budget on a great photographer and our honeymoon, the rest is just details!
I am sure I have said it before and I know I am going to say it again and again BUT you are going to be a stunningly beautiful bride!!
ReplyDeleteMost brides in South Africa custom make their wedding dresses as we just don't have the number of bridal stores that you find in America and Europe.
Enjoy the experience!!!
I just got engaged a few weeks ago and the thought of looking for a wedding dress terrifies me! I have zero ideas of what I want....so this should be interesting for my sales person! I hope it goes more smoothly than I imagine it will. :)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to be an absolutely stunning bride, and based on your inspiration photos I can totally envision you in that type of dress :) I loved my wedding dress but I actually bought the floor model from the botique which was a great way to save $$$...to order the dress new would have literally been 3 times as much and I would have basically been ordering in the side of the floor model that they had available. It was a nice bridal boutique so the dress was in pristine condition and it only had to be taken in slightly to fit on the big day...also, I'm a little jealous you've been getting to go try on wedding dresses, even though I've been married for 3 years, I'd love to do that! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI feel like I am going to have to get my dress custom made as well...I think it's the only way to get EXACTLY what you invision AND there is a better chance of having a dress no other bride has had before.. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm sure everything will turn out perfectly! They say the biggest risk has the biggest reward... I love the flowy style that you are going for! Is it traditional in Northern Ireland to wear sleeves for the church wedding?
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see the gorgeous dress and the rest of the wedding look! I love these Monogamy Mondays!
-XOXO-

I love that you're getting your dress custom made--there's just something so romantic about it being one-of-a-kind, just for you! And those dresses are beautiful inspiration! No doubt you will look absolutely gorgeous on the day!:)
ReplyDeleteThose inspiration pictures are exactly what I envision you in! Going custom is a great idea. I got something very exciting in the mail yesterday!! :)
ReplyDeleteLove the inspiration photos! I did not have a huge budget at all for the dress & struggled to find any in my price range. My maid of honor found the perfect one from David's Bridal & it was just very me.
ReplyDeleteI think its doable on a budget but with research! I had a friend buy a second hand dress since the new version was out of her price range. There are more sites going up to buy used dresses, which I know some people may have issues with but really, its one day so they're in such good shape!
Seeing as I only spend about 2-3 grand on the first wedding....I expect I'll be spending more the second go around. I have to say you and your story give me lots of hope for that second chance.
ReplyDeleteI think I spent about $500 for the dress...in retrospect I wish I'd paid for a photographer to document the day better for my little girl to see one day. I still have it tho and it still fits, so I'm thinking of having it shortened and dyed into a celebratory dress. I'm cheeky like that.
I didn't want a strapless dress and in 09 that was a bit of a problem, not sure it is anymore. I was also getting married outdoors so I didn't want anything too dressy. I ended up getting a pretty strapless dress with beige ribbons wrapped around the bottom. It was a sample but in perfect shape. It actually was strapless, but I could totally see it with wide straps so I asked the seamstress to add them when she did the fitting. It ended up looking great. Some part of me wished I spent more on the dress (and had more fun shopping for it), but another part of me is glad I didn't spend more.
ReplyDeleteOur budget was miniscule (we spent less than $7,000 overall) and I wasn't looking to blow any of our money on a one time gown. Food and photography. Those were our splurges.
ReplyDeleteI'm not big on paying big bucks for a brand name, and ended up buying the first designer knock off gown I tried on (a stunning, asymmetrical princess gown) for $400 cash, hoop included.
Nothing I tried on after that first beauty compared.
It was the eeriest and easiest experience.
Its fun reading everyone's comments and how much they spent on everything. I spent a thousand on mine and wasn't really into it. I tried on a whole bunch of dresses never getting any happy feelings from any of them, then one was pulled that I thought was 'meh' and got such a reaction from my family that I went with it, but still not having that 'wow' that I wanted to have.
ReplyDeleteGoing through all the fittings, I'd get such a great reaction from people but still never felt it was it (it was unique), so after "everything", I sold it for 1/2 the price and can't wait to get something that's more me (whatever that is, I'm all over the place on the style still!) but even now, I'm ok w/having that same budget for the dress. But I surely hope I can find something for a lot less...even if its used. I'm not biased.
Oh and it coming close to $20,000 (out of my own pocket)...I look forward to a fraction of the cost when it really happens.
Emily at Amazing Grapes
i will be asking my future husband if he's ok with me wearing the same dress i wore for my first one. it's couture Claire Pettibone, GORGEOUS, expensive, and a I feel like i wasted it on my first wedding. my next will be fab. (is that weird?)
ReplyDeleteThose dresses you are using as your inspriation are truly stunning! So delicate and romantic! I ended up getting a great deal on my dress, the first few I tried on were far to extravagant for my taste, finally she brought out this big puffy looking mess of material. I was incredibly skeptical at first, but once I slid into it (read: found my legs under all of the layers) I couldn't have been more pleased! The saleswoman said I looked like Audrey Hepburn in Roman Holiday, SOLD! While she was probably lying, I obviously jumped all over that. The only problem is I did not have the intention of paying the price. We finally talked her down, somehow, to 50% off, she had mentioned that it was last seasons dress and no one had ever even tried it on! As long as you feel like a million bucks in it, that's all that matters! And of course keeping front of mind that this is only one day :) I am so excited for you! I am sure you will look simply stunning on your big day!
ReplyDeleteThere I was, sitting all stressed about whether you had found the dress or not after seeing all your options on pinterest and lo and behold you have calmed my nerves..
ReplyDeleteno seriously the reason I stopped by was to see if you had found the dress yet or not! SOOO excited!!!! I just want to see it now but I will be patient.
:)
girl.. my dress was a discontinued style from davids bridal (the same dress miss jenni d wore for her wedding, as well!). i got it for 600 bucks- and had to pay HALF that for alterations (which, of course, i hadn't budgeted for)...
ReplyDeletei spent 3 grand, however, on our photography.
and everyone loves me for it.
and, ummm, cannot WAIT to see this dress on you! it's going to be a stunnah...
and, you do realize, i have every intention of stalking your wedding... but i'll do it with a camera, so i'm paparazzi. which means there aint NOTHING you can do about that. (and i'll also, blog about it.. every embarrassing detail included- or made up, whichever one is necessary)
(;
I love your style. You are going to be stunning! I think any dress you wear you will make it look good. I found my dress on my first try and it was in my very small price range thankfully. Can't wait to see the final product!
ReplyDelete@Jessica Holly- SOLID advice. thanks!!
ReplyDelete@Casey- OMG YOU SCORED!
@Lorraine- i think you put the money in the right places! ;)
@Julia D- haha! Thank you girl!!
@Ruth- No way! I would love to see pictures!
@blue roses- thank you!
@Alyssa- oh no!! fingers crossed then..eep
@ramblings- so funny how straps was totally not in into like the past couple of years huh?
@vicentine- food is one of your big splurges as well. Totally agree with how you went about the dress purchase.
@fitwflath(ami)- i just LOLed so hard.
@queen of babble- thank you! ahh loved your dress story!
I'm loving the dress on the left! The dress question is so stressful! I ended up finding my perfect "me" dress of my dreams and it was actually wayyyyyy under budget. As in, my veil almost cost as much as the dress. I feel like I got lucky. Everything about my dress experience was perfect.
ReplyDeleteI commend you on doing a custom dress! I think you are right to do so. I didn't even consider it!!!
so feel you on this one. I did all my planning from the east coast of US, but needed a dress that could travel on the flight to england. Oh and I left myself a mere 9 weeks to find the dress. I ended up going with jcrew bridal and having a tailor do a bit of custom work on it. The dress ended up being destroyed by the mud from all the rain so I'm thrilled I didn't break the bank. Can't wait to see your dress!
ReplyDeleteNot married, not even close to getting married, so I have nothing really substantial to contribute to the conversation. But that deep V back dress? WOWZA. Gimme. And I'm sure your dress is going to be gorgeous girl :)
ReplyDeleteI found my dress online with Collette Dinnigan (an Australian designer) but they only have stores in Melbourne and Sydney. I called and they only had one left and it was one size too big in Melbourne... I left two days later with my now sister-in-law to try it on. It was the first dress I fell in love with and the first dress I tried on. I had it altered easily and I still love it to this day. I spent around 10% of our overall wedding cost on my dress. Actually, I spent a lot on my complete outfit... I sprang for Louboutins and some amazing Austrian crystal earrings that were a bit art deco.
ReplyDeleteI loved the whole process! Enjoy it! Sal xx
p.s. I have pics up on my blog if you want to stalk ;-)
I love your wedding dress idea you are going for! That looks utterly amazing! You will so fit into it by your final fitting no worries! It is crazy how you think to not get stressed but your body will stress and you will drop lbs like that and in my dress issues i ended up being a little too skinny for my dress...you will get to say the same thing! in a good way of course!
ReplyDeleteI bought my dress for my first wedding when I was 19 years old...that wedding never happened but I was in love with this dress and I knew I would never find anything better and so I kept it, now when I actually got married last month at 23 I still wore that dress and my husband could have cared less, but his friends thought it would be great to make a huge deal because I bought it for someone else. I didn't buy this dress for someone else. I bought it for me and because I felt like a princess, I didn't even think about my husband to be if he would like my dress...and like he knew anything about fashion! lol. My husband now absolutely loves it but he was so supportive saying if I loved it that much why shouldn't I wear it!
Good Luck with everything! I think this is the longest comment I have ever written!
My wedding dress was also VERY important to me. That and the photographer. Those were my two priorities.
ReplyDeleteI had a custom made dress from a woman I found on craigslist (talk about SCARY!) She lived in Santa Monica, CA and worked out of her house in the evenings. It wasn't even her full time job. I was super nervous but had to do it to stay within my dress budget ($800).
Long story short, the dress turned out perfect. I loved everything about it, especially the fact that the main fabric had a bit of stretch to it which made it incredibly comfortable to wear all day long. If something happens with your dressmaker and you want the contact info of my girl (Tracy), just let me know.
Good luck!!
OOOh can't wait to see it! I'm sure it will be just what you want!
ReplyDeleteI've never been married but I'm designing a dress of a formal dance. It can be risky, but ultimately it's all about it being YOU.
And I think weddings are wonderful affairs, and people shouldn't have to give an arm, a leg, and their soul for a wedding dress. Your dress should be memorable, but memorable doesn't have to be expensive!
I am amazed to hear that your custom dress is going to cost less than a store bought one. Sounds pretty perfect! Can't wait to see what you and your designer put together!
ReplyDeleteI haven't done the whole dress shopping thing as I am not married. I am actually not really even looking forward to that part.....I have such a hard time shopping when there is pressure.
I know nothing about your back problem, have you shared that on here before?
ohhh sh*%$*(# I don't even want to talk about how much I spent on my dress!! My own jaw dropped to the floor. BUT it was worth it then and it is still worth it now. I LOVED that dress! I can't wait to see you in yours. Who are we kidding? You'd be gorgeous even in a garbage bag so I'm not worrying one bit.
ReplyDeletei'm getting married in 32 days (what? i'm not counting down or anything) and i'm getting more stressed out by the second!!
ReplyDeletebut the two things i love the most are my dress and groom so i guess things will work out! :)
you will be stunning.
I looks for years for my wedding dress and I just got to the point where I had to admit to myself that I hate wedding dresses (on me). Even though I knew I needed one, it wasn't really high on my priority list and I waited until the last possible minute... about 5 months until the wedding... and then bought a dress that was half price, had it fitted and altered the way I wanted it to look. I like how everything turned out in the end, especially regarding budget.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, can I relate to this! The wedding dress ended up being a much much much bigger deal to me than I ever in a million years thought it would be. Before looking for a dress I thought to myself "it's just a pretty dress, I have tons of dresses I love, this isn't a big deal and shouldn't be hard." WRONG. All the dresses I loved were waaaaaaaay over my budget, and after months of agonizing about it I finally said screw it and got the dress I wanted. I had a lot of guilt at first about spending so much on something you wear once, but now that it's over, I don't regret it at all. I absolutely loved my dress, I loved how I felt in my dress, and I love looking at pictures of me in the dress. I didn't think the dress was such a big deal, but it was, and that's okay.
ReplyDeleteAnd as for your dress inspiration, I am in love! I would have loved to pull off something so willoly and elegant! I'm sure the actual dress is going to be amazing.
Custom dress! So fab! Loving your inspo! The dress on the left is beautiful!

Hello... I have been reading you for a while but it is the first time I comment. I am an expat in The Netherlands, and I can so relate to your dress search. When I first went to look, one of the salesgirls actually told me that the dresses I wanted (fluid, empire cut) were for british or american pregnant girls and that they did not have those (all they seem to have was stiff taffeta, puffy, beaded, strapless numbers that were not my personality at all). In the end though, I persisted and found a dress that suited me and that I loved... though I have to admit I second guessed myself for a while (there was this other dress, covered in french lace, that I had tried when I was not even engaged yet... no, I am not that crazy, I was "trying" dresses for a friend). I actually wrote about this experience...with pics and all so if you are curious here it is:
ReplyDeletehttp://poppiesandicecream.blogspot.nl/2011/07/homage-to-dress-i-didnt-have.html
That's exciting that you are having a dress custom made though! Can't wait to see the site!
ReplyDeletehmm. shouldve caught up from the later posts. haha This kinda answers the question I posed. I love all these styles. your gnna look effortlessly beautiful and stunning.. ahhh SO EXCITED!!! :D
ReplyDelete♥CheChe
Who's playing catch up because the kid got her up at 5am? This girl.
ReplyDeleteSo...I got married 15 loooong years ago and ended up with a designer ready-made dress. I wanted silk chiffon so I could feel ballerina-esque {and more importantly comfortable!} all day. Kinda sorta reminds me of the fabric you've chosen...flowy like.
I might change the fact that there was some embroidery on the bodice but other than that, honestly, it's still just as pretty today.
