Yesterday was the day..

Hunger Games day.

I havnt talked about the Hunger Games much online..

because I didn't want people to feel bad about how I am more of a die hard fan..

But now i feel the time has come to share my Hunger Games heart with you all..

I read the books before I moved to England..

that would be over 2 years ago now.

I know.
Told you..
real fan over here..

I worked for a family in Laguna beach for over a year..
they had three teenage daughters..
the youngest being 12 when I started.

It was, to this day, the best job i've ever had..
I hung out on their private beach,
drove their golf cart and cars,
gossiped with the girls,
borrowed their clothes,
went to the movies,
ate fro-yo almost every day,
and read almost every book on the 12 year olds shelf.

We would go to barns and noble and just browse the teen section.
It's how I stumbled upon Twilight..
And then later..
The Hunger Games.

I am a sucker for tween fiction.
I cant stop myself.

Needless to say..
I LOVED the film.

Thank you hollywood for picking actors that can actually act..
::side eye Twilight casting director::

Stephen was hesitant to go after the fiasco that was his first Twilight movie experience..
(he still hasnt forgiven me for that)
But he loved the Hunger Games.

And thus concludes my public display of affection for the Hunger Games.

*on a totally unrelated note, there are some new pieces up in the shop..some limited edition. Take a gander.

  1. I'm a sucker for tween fiction too. I don't know what it is, it just draws me in.

Hunger Games is one of my all time favorite series. And I read them years ago too :)

  2. Wow you are die hard... I just read them last summer. I loved the casting too!!! I thought the portrayal of Caesar was sort of obnoxious, but I guess he's supposed to be.

  3. I liked the movie - I wish I would have loved it but maybe the fact that I saw the midnight showing on a work night had something to do with that. The shakey camera buisness really threw me off... that and the fight scenes - I couldnt tell who was who.

Those books will forever be my favorite, though!

  4. I couldn't agree more - Hunger Games is leagues beyond Twilight, both in book quality and movie casting ;) I just loved the flick and can't wait for more!

  5. We loved the movie too!

Justin and I still laugh about the time we were in the airport bookstore and he asked the clerk where he could find The Hunger Games. "Right over here, in TEEN FICTION" she said loudly, and with judgement in her voice.

I still giggle as I picture my 6'4" man plucking it out amongst the Sweet Valley Highs.

  6. You ARE def a REAL fan. And yes... the movie was ten time better than a Twilight film. I love the cast they chose!

  7. NERD ALERT! just kidding, i'm right there with ya. minus the finding the books 2+ years ago.

  10. Gorgeous photos. A private beach on Laguna?!?! I want to be that family's nanny! I didn't do the Twilight series and I'm glad I didn't bc I probably would've been more skeptical to read the Hunger Games. I read them a little over a year ago…hasn't waiting for the movie been so much torture?? But wasn't it worth it? :)

  13. Read it in 2009, that is THREE years ago...just sayin. PS: YA fiction is also my genre of choice, it is just so much better than everything else. Does that mean I'm trying to relive my youth or something? I'm so old.

  14. ummmm, i could write my own trilogy just cooing over how much i love the hunger games, so this wasn't bad in the slightest!!!!!!!!!

but i have to know...are you team gale or team peeta??

    CupcakesOMG!

  15. Lovely photos! And I totally agree - such a great trilogy! And the actors ... Being a Cincinnati girl, the fact that 2 of the chosen are from the area (Peeta and Haymitch) I love it!

  16. Impressive, I totally read the first book on Sunday so I could see the movie Monday! All the hype was right SO GOOD!

  17. Haha! No way! You are just one package of surprises, aren't you? I have to say, out of all the Hunger Games fans, you are the most die hard. Bowing down in admiration!

  18. I LOVE that view from your living room!

  19. I totally thought the same thing about them! The movie including the casting and everything was so well done compared to the Twilight movies. Bleh.

  20. Oh my gosh, my hubby hates the twilight movies. So I was hoping he would enjoy this movie and he did!!! He gave it 4 stars and didn't read the books. And the acting was great compared to um...k stew. Lol
No shame in liking the tween books. :-)

  21. At 27, I am STILL a fan of teen fiction. If you like girlier books, the Private and Privilege series are good, as is Pretty Little Liars. I had to convince my hubby to go see Hunger Games, and luckily he liked it (not much luck with Twilight - but he liked Harry Potter too)

  22. I felt territorial of the books too!! I read them years ago also. In fact, I had to wait 6 months for book #3 to come out! Yes, 6 torturous months...wondering what the hell "There is no District 12" meant.

  27. Okay:
    A. I am a REAL fan, too - obsessed.
    2. I want to hear this story about S and his first Twilight experience.
and lastly, you should make a hunger games themed necklace to sale. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. are your necklace beads or stone? and is it real silver?

    ReplyDelete
  29. 2 years ago? Yep you win.
Though I did love the movie an awful, awful lot.

  30. @alicia- Yes, they are real gold plated and silver plated chains/discs. There are ones made with Jade Gemstones, and ones made with glass beads.

  31. I haven't yet gotten in to Hunger Games- but I really do need to ASAP. I have heard nothing but amazing things!! I'd say you are a "true" fan! :)

  35. I saw it twice. So there.

...but you still win because you read the books waaay before I never knew they existed. I bow down to you.

    ReplyDelete
  36. i too read the books about 2 or 3 years ago..before everyone was fan crazy over them.. and i have to agree that the movie was perfect! i'm a little nervous to share my love for the books though because i don't want to fangirl like everyone else..i consider myself a true fan from the start, not a trendy hunger games fan now that it's a movie ;) haha

  37. 1. uhh does that family still need help say in the months of july and august
    2. it doesnt come out till april 20th here torrrttuurree

  38. I haven't read the books, yet. After seeing the film last night I would like to read them.

Maybe it's just because I didn't know very much about the story going into it, but I thought that they didn't really develop the characters enough. To me, it seemed like a lot was left out, most likely since the majority of the audience would already know everything they need to about the characters.

Overall I did like the movie though.

  39. oooooo i'm a hunger games nut too. high five for reading them before the hype. lol. the movie was really well made... super bummed with the way they told the peeta-katniss story... and jennifer lawerence didn't quite fit for me... omg. nerding out. sorry.

    your blog is beautiful :)

  44. cannot wait to see it. You would make an amazing babysitter. They probably cried when you left them. Poor things. And I heard that the movie was pretty accurate to the books as well. :). This tickles me quite so. Cannot wait until I am finally able to see it. AHHH!!
