The other night Stephen took me out to a "shop opening celebration dinner"
at one of our fav Glasgow Restaurants, Bovine.
I have to be honest,
at one of our fav Glasgow Restaurants, Bovine.
I have to be honest,
I was sorta sweating the whole introducing the new blog, shop, and fb to you..
it felt like a lot of exposing.
Like being caught in a room with your pants down
(which to Stephen, pants means panties/knickers, a conversations that took way too long between him and I when I asked him yesterday where he put my pants (i was talking jeans and he thought i meant underwear and kept telling me i left them on the bathroom floor...)
This is going to come as shocking to you all..
but I sometimes have a hard time putting myself out there..
I know.
you are all going, Meg, did you not read your post from yesterday about moses tampons...or the many posts before talking about your personal life...
and this is all true.
Liz and I had the same conversation..
where she asked me what it was like being so open on my blog..
and I said for as much as I share, there is just as much that I don't.
(if you can even imagine)
(if you can even imagine)
okay maybe not JUST as much..but there is still stuff I've held back..
naturally..
we all need to have things left for just us.
I love being open on here..
sharing my life..
to document it..
to remember..
and in hopes that it will either brighten someones day
or make them feel less alone in this big world.
ALL of that to say..
Opening up a shop seemed like a big deal to me..
it was something totally new, totally different (for me..not for the blogging world in general)
and even though my past years were spent working in fashion..
my recent years have been dedicated to academia..
my recent years have been dedicated to academia..
it this was pretty far from anything neuroscience related..
But I wouldn't expect anyone else, including Stephen,
to think it was that big of a deal..
but he made it one.
(and so did all of you)
(and so did all of you)
and it makes my heart so happy to know he cares enough to celebrate the little things
as if they were huge things.
Which is one of the many reasons why I love him.
(and love all of you...ya..I said the L word to you...too soon?)
Which is one of the many reasons why I love him.

*this tender moment brought to you by my softer side

Awwwww, this made my heart happy. I totally understand what you mean. Sometimes the smaller things really seem like the bigger things and they're hard to open up about. But, you did it and we love it and Stephen loves it too! You have an amazing blog over here. It's a place where I love to "hang out" because I know I'll always find something different, something real :)
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it feel so good to be in a supportive relationship where both people insist on celebrating each others achievements? I used to be in a relationship that was the exact opposite, and now that I'm in one that does, I'm so thankful for it :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so sweet, glad Stephen appreciates what he has and glad you are so happy :)

It's the "little things" in a relationship that matter the most...hang on to that one, he's a keeper! Congrats again, so happy for you!!!
ReplyDeleteHe sounds like a keeper, Megan. Congrats on the shop. Putting yourself "out there" will be rewarding in many ways, I'm sure. I enjoy reading, as always!

You are right- it can be so scary to share yourself with the blogosphere! But we are all glad you did. You have a lot to offer, love!
ReplyDeleteYour blog is seriously one of my favorites. I check it constantly to see what hilarious conversations or posts you put up. I am so glad you share what you do!
ReplyDeleteIt seems that you two have a beautiful relationship. It's so nice having someone you love support you and believe in you.
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited about this! I'm glad he made it a big deal :)
ReplyDeleteIt is a MAHUSSIVELY amazing deal! And one that needs to be celebrated so I am glad you did it in stlye.
ReplyDeleteAnd I love you too Megan--was that too soon--it is that awkward silence--probably, oh look there goes the tumbleweed.
Aw how sweet! Stepping out of your comfort zone is always a big deal :-) It's nice when your loved ones acknowledge that too!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you ! :-)
yay for supportive men! and like I already said to you, I completely understand how terrifying it is to put your creative self out there. and huge props to you for taking the plunge!
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet guy you have! Congrats on the shop opening and thanks for "exposing" more of yourself to us! :)
ReplyDeleteLove this post. I was just speaking to my man the other day about although I blog a lot about personal things like my body issues or our marriage, there's still a lot that I haven't blogged about. So in my own way I feel an appropriate amount of space. Maybe it's all in my head, but it helps.
ReplyDeleteI just love your shop. Seriously. I want to buy everything in it. And I love why you blog why you do- to connect with others. Such a powerful thing.
You are definitley the Blogger I inspire to be. In all Seriousness! I love that you are so open, I feel like I am always open on my blog too but maybe I am not compared to you. hmm. I talk more of heart-wrenching experiances on my blog...you are just open about everything. I Love it!! :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I love that he cares enough to celebrate something things.....He isn't American..that's what makes him Romantic! lol You can deny it, but you know it's true..something about those Irish, English, Scottish, ETC men that just make them Naturally Romantic. hmm.
what a sweet man to celebrate for you. sometimes little things mean the most to us, and people who understand and appreciate how much those little things mean to us are keepers.
ReplyDeleteI like the softer side. And I am SO happy that I can share this little piece of life with you and laughter! You're wonderful. You're special. And yes, the "L" word needed to come out of hiding :)

Not just to my friends at home, family or sorority. Your blog design, and heder look amazing. And your shop is beautiful. Congratulations on it. Sending love and well wishes your way.
ReplyDeleteHe is such a good man. Your shop opening IS a reason to celebrate! It's so cool!

ReplyDeleteand so proud of you - and it is a BIG stinking deal!
totally know what you mean about exposing... it's b/c we are infj. people think we're exposing way more... but there is so much more that we don't. we're so amazing and complex. (:
Where else am I going to get my daily dose of laughter during my boring work hours?? So I'm saying my entertainment during the week relies solely on you. No pressure or anything.
ReplyDeleteI'm always a little nervous to open up too much on my blog...just because there's so many weirdos out there. BUT I want to, I want to be trusting and fearless with my blog...maybe in time :)
ReplyDeleteI love how you write and what you write. Your new little shop is absolutely inspiring and I think it will be such a fun thing for you. Everything on there is so lovely. AND Way to score a 5 star Irish man who celebrates the littles :)
How am I just now discovering all of your greatness on here? I love open people, especially when they are entertaining and sincere. I am working on doing that on my little blog, it's so much better to look back on :)
ReplyDeleteBTW: I think you know Bailey from Lost & Found? I just did a little blog meet up with her and I think she was saying you two are IRL friends from a long time ago. If you're the wrong girl, I am going to feel like an idiot ;)
You deserve a celebration, ladyfriend :) You're amazing. And I love that you'te starting to share more.
ReplyDeleteYou are amazing. :) Seriously, one of my favorites. How is your shop doing?? I hope it's doing great! I love how open you are on your blog. Your stories always make me laugh. :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear, congratz girl! How did I miss this? Your stuff looks so good. I just tweeted your shop :). A neuroscience degree is the best product guarantee ever.
ReplyDelete♥CheChe
YOU ARE SO AWESOME. That is all.
ReplyDeleteaweee that is so sweet of stephen to do that for you because really, it is a big deal! there are so many people that only think about doing things like that but you put it into action! and your shop is adorable! i always admired your necklaces when you would take pictures and were wearing one. anyway i'm glad you're as open and honest as you are, even if it's not your whole story. But everything that you do write and share with us I love reading. I love laughing at your funny posts and I like knowing and sometimes even empathizing with your serious posts. Yours is by far one of, if not my favorite blog. And I'm so happy for you opening your shop and having someone as great as stephen for making the "little things" rightfully big things :)
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog and I love it!!
ReplyDeleteI am gonna try this comment thing again...let me see if I can regurgetate what I wrote yesterday...
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, but most importantly I love you! I love that even though your what seems like a million miles away I can still feel connected to you and know whats goin on in your life. I LOVE YOU!
THis is so sweet and so sweet of him to do that for you!! You guys are just the cutest and I love seeing more posts about you two :D
ReplyDeleteI'm so proud of you :) Your shop is darling! I love you, too. Definitely not too soon! haha xo
ReplyDeleteJust getting caught up on your blog Meg, and I wanted to say I completely understand! I think you're like me in that it's probably LESS difficult for you to share personal stuff, but when it comes to "professional" stuff, it's kind of like we just take it a lot more seriously, and the fear of failure is more real. Sharing my personal life feels natural to me, but when it comes time to really market my photography business (after I learn A LOT more), I have a feeling I'm going to be terrified!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, on a side note, I think those blogs where the blogger really opens up and offers something of themselves besides just on the surface stuff are the ones that really grow more quickly. Many people want to feel connected to others and to get a peek at someone else's REAL LIFE, and I think if you can tell your story in an interesting, entertaining, and personal way, you've got it made. And you do ALL of those things, so yeah. Congratulations. :)
Megan - I must have missed the window of availability, but I found others I like. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm LOVIN my necklaces! Also, I kept the twine AND the Royal Mail envelope! Because I'm such an Anglophile. (Which, I hope, also covers Scotland. ha!)
