My family graduation photo folks..
in all of its glory..
Its one of those photos where you could see it and be like,
huh, that's cute..
im not sure if her brother is being funny..
or he isn't normal/he is a closet sociopath..
or they forced them into that pose..
They definitely didn't tell us the pose like that..
in fact the photographer said,
"you sure you want to pose like that?"
and shane was all
"yes, of course I do."
She (photographer) did however place my moms arm on me like that..
which totally looks natural..
and that "diploma" im holding?
a fake.
I knew when i put it on facebook the majority of my friends would be like
omg..shane totally did that on purpose
(which he did guys.. don't worry)
but then there were the select few who clearly don't know us well,
(read: the friends you add because you knew them 15 years ago in junior high but as soon as you add them you instantly unsubscribe from their feed)
who were all
"that's pretty"
really?
I think it should be mounted over a fireplace, personally.
Feel free to add your captions for it below.
My favorite comment so far from facebook:
"This is tender. It also looks like a picture straight out of an early 90's church directory...in the best possible way"- Ahnika

haha..yes i could totally see this in a church directory, right by your favorite casserole recipe. :) xo
ReplyDeletei think i'd really like shane if i met him. didn't we quip back and fourth over your pelvic thrust photos on facebook? we're sort of friends then...
ReplyDeletechurch directory yes!
We should put this in the dictionary under "Happiness." Because you all look sooooooooo happy.
ReplyDeleteI need to be your friend. End.
haha it def looks like it was taken in the late 80's or early 90's.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like it should be an early 90s college prospectus thing--you know the photo of the proud graduate with a quote about how this uni is the best ever and you would be nowhere without it.
ReplyDeleteHilariousss!!
ReplyDeleteOh I nearly forgot to say its way better than mine--my sister said "literally what happened to your face when they took it, what is wrong with your chin!?"
ReplyDeleteIt was a real confidence boost and now seems to haunt me at my family's houses--great!
can I just say I was made to take a grad photo just like that from exeter with my family awkwardly posed around me and the fake diploma? gotta love british degrees...
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I can just imagine me having a photo like this with my family and the fun we'd make about it xD Love it.
ReplyDeleteHello 1980! Hello awkward pose! Goodbye photographer.
ReplyDeleteHahah this is perfection. Definitely early 90's glory. (but seriously, you are really pretty.)
ReplyDeleteChurch directory was totally my first thought! Although, our church photographer would have insisted your brother pose like that. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteHahaha!
ReplyDeleteThis is pretty much a classic awkward family photo. The fakey diploma ... hands-on poses ... I giggled. :D
I'm picturing your brother's leg kicked back, toe-pointed. Can we see the full frame version?
ReplyDeletehahah awesome
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a family friendly show from the 80's or 90's. DJ Tanner on graduation day. Or Mallory Keaton's, and Alex has to be nice and awkward in the picture. I feel like a very valuable life lesson has been learned or a crisis resolved in this 30 minute sitcom. Tune in next week.
ReplyDeleteAwww look at youuuuuu :)
ReplyDeleteSuch a funny photograph, yet so cliche!
Niki @ LQM&M
xo
Gurl. This is bad.
ReplyDeletehahaha my immediate thought was "he totally did that on purpose and it is genius!"
ReplyDeleteHahahaha "This is tender." Yes...it is. That's exactly what it is. I love it.
ReplyDeleteearly 90's church directories...oh boy.
ReplyDeleteHa, my first reaction to this was "that's a fake pose!!!" LOL and yes, please frame this and put it on top of a fireplace. :D
ReplyDeleteOh man, this is priceless. It would have made it complete had your mom put her hands on your other shoulder.
ReplyDeleteEmily at Amazing Grapes
Aw, this is so dear.
ReplyDeleteAs soon as I saw it, I knew there was no way he was serious with that pose. Does this mean I know you better than random ex-middle schoolers? I hope so.
More like AMAZING family photo. : )
ReplyDeleteHa, this made my whole life.
ReplyDeleteMy entire childhood/teen years could account for the entire awkwardfamilyphotos website.
Haha! For what it's worth, your brother looks like that guy on transformers. Shia something or other.
ReplyDeleteYour brother: "Hmm, lets see to what degree of awkward I can manage to heighten this photo to"
ReplyDeleteYou: "Mmm..I really wish this fake diploma was a bag of hot cheetos"
Your mom: "Do what with my hands?! Huh well this definitely won't be framed above the fireplace."
Thanks for the awesome laugh!! :)
Church directory for the win. She was right on with that one!! You should submit this to Ellen's show for her awkward family photo segment.
ReplyDeleteFemale photographer you say? My guess is that this was Shane's thought process:
ReplyDelete"Sister's graduation photo... How can I make this as awkward as possible while still remaining full clothed... I wonder if I pose like... Hellooooo pretty lady!"
Hahahaha, I seriously love that your brother thrives on making things awkward. I love him!!
ReplyDeletetender for reals.
ReplyDeletexo the egg out west.
Totally over the mantel type of material... one of the best family portraits I've ever seen! You can feel the brother and sisterly love!
ReplyDeletexxx
Jenna
I personally think this photo should be sewn into a photo blanket:
ReplyDeletehttp://www.personalthrows.com/
"yes of course i do" hahahaha i'm mildly obsessed with your brother. classic photo. blow it up really large, place it somewhere conspicuous and take it very seriously when people start to giggle at shane. great plan jasmine.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! LOL! The first thing I noticed was the way you're holding your "diploma' makes it look like you're either about to try and swat a fly, or about to smack the photographer with it!
ReplyDeleteThis is precious.
ReplyDelete"Josie new she had a bright future ahead of her, now that she was a licensed ultrasound technician. Now if only her little brother Vinny would stop walk in on her when she was showering!"
ReplyDelete*walking
ReplyDeletedammit
I don't even know what to say to this. It is hilariously awkward.
ReplyDeleteHaha, that photo is epic. Your brother is amusing! It's a good photo to look at and make you smile!
ReplyDeletethis photo reminds me a little bit of one of those families on the cornflakes packages! Or the members of "7th heaven".. Shanes head seems to be photoshoped on the body of a preachers son :D
ReplyDeleteCongrats again, you look great!
This should be the cover page for the website awkwardfamilyphotos.com.
ReplyDeleteI hope you get this printed onto mugs, canvas screen print (for above the fireplace), and maybe even a sweater vest?
It really does look straight out of a church directory. I have a beauty that literally is from our 90s church directory and my hands are on my brother's shoulders and we look just plain dorky. Love these gems!
ReplyDeleteThe sad thing is that I thought it WAS an old church directory photo at first. Oops.
ReplyDeleteLove your blog, missy!
belongs in the church directory. omg i must meet shane. he comes to BS too right?
ReplyDeletebahaha this is incredible. blow it up huge and frame it asap. most excellent!
ReplyDeleteoh dear.
ReplyDeleteYour lovely and attractive brother seems quite creepy and prone to choking women when he gets into drunken rages or sees that the table has been set incorrectly or that the cans in the cupboard have not all been filed with the label facing the same direction...
Very, very scary.
And your kungfu grip looks almost like a subtle cry for help...
haha I LOVE IT!!
seriously. Your brother is hilarious. And I am sorry for calling him attractive. It slipped out. Just like my love that I have for foreign, european, white males. I just love being honest with you I suppose.
♥CheChe
as soon as I read "tender" I knew it had to be Ahn.
ReplyDeletehe is JUST like my little brother. and I adore my little brother. Shane, lets please be friends.
hahahaha STOP it.
ReplyDeleteWait... this is for real?
ReplyDeleteOh, more tears... this time the laughing kind...
LOL I love it!
