This happened last week.
Not only did it involve me wearing a cap and gown
But it also involved a very old Chinese man..
who wore a very long royal type robe,
with a train,
carried by a girl in a robe,
escorted by men with long staffs,
and a very large gold stick.
He was the Chancellor
(king of graduation ceremonies?)
And we had to bow to him as we walked across the stage after our name was called.
I almost pee'd myself.
And as I looked around the room,
at my fellow peers and graduates,
I thought..
"the faculty of science people are total freaks"
Like, imagine all of those really nerdy people in your high school honors science or math classes..
all in one room.
as adults.
yikes.

Weird, awkward and yet I can totally see the nerdiest of nerds in high school making that a requirement as an adult to make up for all the teasing from high school...
Emily at Amazing Grapes
CONGRATS!!! I just graduated as well, but I already had my celebration last spring. Doesn't it feel amazing?

ReplyDeleteWe just attended my sister's graduation last week and spent the whole ceremony making fun of the Star Wars - esque music that the organist was playing.
Did you seriously have to bow to an old Chinese dude?? I can't even comprehend this. Are you sure you weren't secretly in the Mortal Kombat movie?
ReplyDeleteYOU GO GIRL.
ReplyDeleteand the description sounds like a scene out of harry potter or something.

Congratulations!!!! You rock!! Now go sit around and eat cheetos and not worry about the nervous system for a bit :)
ReplyDeleteSmart, rich freaks, right?! :) :) :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats!!!!
Love, Leigh
Congrats to the most beautiful and witty neuroscientist I know!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations smarty pants!
ReplyDeleteAs a Chemistry major and self-professed nerd, I know what you mean. It's scary to think that all these insanely smart people with no social skills will mate with more insanely smart people with no social skills. And create insanely smart babies. I'm taking it upon myself to teach all the nerdy offspring social skills. It's a public service.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your graduation! So happy there was an old Chinese man for you to bow to. (Because it just wouldn't have felt official otherwise, right?)
University of Nottingham?! You're SO Maid Marian. F*** yeah.
ReplyDeletehahaha this made me laugh so much because it reminds me of all my science dept. staff... quite unique let me tell ya. But then i wonder if that's what people think of me too lol. Congrats girlfriend!
ReplyDeleteCongrats pretty girl!! So proud of you :)
ReplyDeleteCongraaats! You are a master of the brain. Yaaaaay you! By the way... I need the haps on things you miss MOST from America (ie: cheetos, but other items as well) since I am moving to Spain 1/24. Help!
ReplyDeleteI am so glad/happy/proud for you!!!
ReplyDeleteAren't you so glad it's over?!?! I remember when you thought you'd never get through a year and now look at you!
