Too soon?

University of Nottingham..oh hey..there is the red coat.

Is it too soon for a "how we met" post?
Eh, it's probably "too soon" for the majority of my posts.
I'm sure everyone consistently squirms with that awkward look on their face when they read my blog..
like, head down, overt eye contact,
"uhm I don't know what to say here so I'm just gonna move on...."

But its been a few weeks/days since I've done one of those "shocker" posts, which means its time.

I know you all are secretly wondering how I met and started dating the man with the Irish accent
and you are either
a. too afraid to ask
or b. you are ballsy and already asked in a private email..

you know who you are..don't worry..there were many of you.. ;)

So here it is..

I arrived in Nottingham, England end of September 2010..
I was late because my visa took forever to process back home in the states.
And UPS lost it at one point..

I was rushing to class,
my first lecture as a masters student in a different country..
it was cold,
the leaves were falling,
and I was breaking out in sweat because I had just walked more then I had ever walked in my life.
(like a mile...)
I got there early..and stood outside the lecture hall, waiting for the previous class to wrap up.

I had missed all the "new post grad get-togethers"
and the introductory seminar..
So I didn't know anyone.
Soon my fellow classmates started to arrive and thus began the introductions..
"oh you're American? why the heck are you in England? aren't you cold?"

I met the English girl who would turn out to be one of my best friends,
the Norwegian girl who would end up causing drama,
the English girl from Essex who would die her hair pink and purple,
the German girl who would end up getting pregnant by a member of staff,
the English guy who wouldn't speak,
the Swiss girl who already had a masters and knew it all,
the English girl who I would work on my final project with,
the other English girl who was posh but would say she wasn't,
and the tall handsome Irish lad,
who would almost one year later become my boyfriend.

But I was not single when I came to England..
and I was not looking.
We shook hands,
and I went and sat with a couple of the English girls once the lecture began.

  7. those damn norwegian girls! at my school in france this summer, it was ALWAYS those girls who started shit up. but usually it was with another of their kind, so us americans would just sit back and watch the tall blonde girls screaming at each other in another language in the courtyard. sometimes we'd pop popcorn. place bets on who'd storm away first.
