A jacket for the rain

well..it was raining...freaking Scotland..

coat: Michael Kors; Sweater: H&M; blouse: Zara; ring: topshop

I think that once it becomes cold and wet enough to need a rain coat you shouldn't have to shave your legs anymore.
I need the extra insulation.
It's only fair.

Want to know one of my most embarrassing moments of my blogging "career?"
No, announcing that I don't want to shave my legs anymore is not it.
It was when Daryl e mailed me awhile back.
Introducing herself as a fellow expat
and American living in Europe
and newly married to a man with an accent.

Except..
when she e mailed me..
I had just woken up..
and saw the name Daryl
and thought she was a he
even after visiting her blog I still thought it was just a male writing a very girly blog..
I was like, whoa..this dude is domestic..
and proceeded to respond to her saying
"I've never "met" a male blogger before, but i think it's totally great!"

she obviously corrected me of her gender.

*mortified*

I think its made us closer though..
or she is just being nice to me because she is embarrassed for me.

check out my guest post on her blog to hear my inner dialogue upon my initial arrival in the UK.
and wish her a happy birthday!

  2. WOW I love that jacket. The red is so striking. Happy Monday hun! xo.

  3. I have been looking all over for a red rain coat. Could not find one. Gonna steal yours instead, k? Yup.

I, too, have done the name thing. There was a Mischa that I kept calling a girl and later was corrected that it was in fact a dude. Whoops.

  4. as embarrassing as that it is, i think it makes a great story, girl! and loving that jacket, too - the color is perfect!

  5. Shaving your legs is overrated. When winter hits, Once every couple weeks is good enough for me! - Alyssa

  6. Yep, that is indeed a cringe worthy moment! But something tells me, you aren't the first to havemade that mistake. It seems pretty expected, right?

But what is NOT cringe worthy is your fantastic red coat. It's super duper cute.

  7. hahah oh no!!

    well your jackets real cute!

  8. Hilarious! My dad's name is Darryll, so it's not your fault. : )

And I totally agree about the leg-shaving...I don't shave from October to June. HA!

  9. Being a girl named Daryl, I am totally used to being mistaken for a man. My favorite of these mixups was when I was put into the boy's group in summer camp as a young teenager. That was a VERY fun couple of ours, until they figured out their mistake and relocated me. xD

So no worries Megan, it DID bring us closer, and inspired a whole lot of laughs.

Thanks for guest posting on my blog!

  10. Oh, you totally don't have to shave your legs until it's warm enough to reveal them again. I thought for a few minutes about shaving my legs in the shower today, then finally came to my senses and decided against it. I, too, need the extra insulation - and shaving takes. so. long.

    PS - cute coat!

  11. I love that second picture. You are so glam babe! I laughed so hard at your story but then I felt bad because I would've been soooo mortified. It's a good thing it brought you girls closer ;).

    besos!

  12. This post made me laugh! I totally agree. When it starts to snow I rarely shave my legs. Just makes more sense. I've done worse than the name mix-up...in person.

  13. Haha! Love that you thought she was a guy. Awesome.

Love that coat. Can't wait to wear my red pea coat (I still shave my legs though. Husband likes it better that way.)

  14. I refuse to buy rain appropriate apparel... that'd make it seem like I was ok with the rain... and I'm not. #stubborn #idiot

I'd do something like that. I mean Daryl is almost ALWAYS a boy name, right?

  15. gorgeous coat!!

i mean...at least you didn't mistake her for a "him" in real life!!

  16. This is a hilarious story! And cute coat. :)

  17. I think it would have been an even better story if she pretended to be a guy the whole time until you two had the chance to meet.

Now THAT would have been embarrassing. haha

  18. I thought it was a guy too.
    Even after you corrected yourself.
I was thinking this guy is a freak and trying to pretend hes a girl to get after Megan...
But i looked at the blog and she is very much a female.

    Interesting...
    Very interesting...
    Love your post over there.
You should write a book on Being American in Europe.
Or being a southern californian in Europe to be more exact.

    Seriously.
And you could utilize your masters degree by talking about the neurological effects one experiences when changing climates??

    seriously.

  20. I stop shaving my legs around this time. You have to. And thanks for admitting such an embarrassing mistake - I think all of us have done something similar at some point whether it be through blogging or not, and it's so refreshing to hear others admit their "oops" moments! I'm sure she thought it to be quite funny.

  21. we all know what/who i thought YOU were, so....

  22. This is off topic, but it just occured to me that you would make a REALLY hot vampire. That second picture above is proof.

  23. PS - When I saw that picture, I said to myself, "ha, ha, ha, I vant to suck your blood..." You know, as if YOU were saying it, in kind of a Transylvania accent?...

    Am I creepy?

  24. I'm sure you are not the first person to think Daryl was a male. Probably more like the 500th. Bless Daryl's little soul! I like her bloggy blog.

Oh, and I pretty much just died over your trench.

  39. Too funny! Though I have to admit that's totally something I would do.
Loving the red raincoat! I acquired some cute coats while living in Ireland - unfortunately now they're just shoved into my closet where they will stay for as long as we're in Dubai :(
