This is all some of the items in my shopping basket..
sitting there..
yearning to be worn by me.
Minus two coats that I could only find in the actual store..
but oh, don't worry, they are burned into the depths of my brain..
note: i cant purchase pants that touch the ground or cant be worn with boots..
because I live in the UK..
and the ground is consistently wet..
and if it is not wet..
it will be at some point in the day.
I think I confused a few of you yesterday with my "staying in the UK" remark...
I forget 90% of my readers are American..
United Kingdom(UK)=Great Britain(GB)+Northern Ireland
UK/GB=British
UK=England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland
hence..
there is no "British" Accent
England is IN Britain..
but is not Britain.
I am still moving to Scotland.
Because Scotland is in the UK.
And for those of you going..
"I'm an idiot"
I am right there with you
(calling you an idiot)..
Just kidding..
i am right there with you in BEING an idiot
(calling you an idiot)..
Just kidding..
i am right there with you in BEING an idiot
Because before i moved to England..
I googled United Kingdom..
and I still got confused..
and then when I moved here i had to ask people FROM here..
now THAT is embarrassing.
I also did not know you couldn't drive to Ireland..
because it is surrounded by water.
My BF had a really good laugh at that one.
Did you also know the accents vary from place to place?
A southern English accent sounds different then a northern one?
and the Northern Irish Accent is TOTALLY different from the Southern Irish Accent?
It's like a whole different world out here people...
full of awe and wonder..
post script: Ive already been corrected by a friend of mine who is English. Britain is slightly different then the UK...see here..http://www.woodlands-junior.kent.sch.uk/customs/questions/britain/britain.htm
if you really care that much about UK terminology.
Clearly living here for a year has taught me nothing.

I love the United Kingdom/Britain/England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland. However, I have never understood how the government truly works. I know the relationships between naming but how do three separate countries get governed by one group? If England hosts the capital how do Scotland and Wales feel included? As Americans our capital is one state but that's not the same thing as countries... Can you offer some help on this?
ReplyDeletegeography is a tricky thing..so yep. i do appreciate the breakdown. im bad about knowing state capitols in the US...but i will blame that on moving mid-year 5th grade.
ReplyDeleteback to the important stuff.. those clothes. ill take the green blouse and the yellow dress. mmmhmmm..online shopping should come with a warning label : highly addictive.
I need those riding boots..so so cute! You have good taste in clothing..can I hire you as my personal stylist? :)
ReplyDeleteMore importantly- where are those boots from?!?! I love the first boots you posted here! And the green shirt! Now I want to go shopping...
ReplyDeletehaha, yup. I'm an idiot.
ReplyDeletemy ENGLISH friend always corrects me when i say "british accent".
ReplyDeletei just sing the star-spangled banner while holding my hands over my ears and go on about my day.
haha! I knew about the accent think, but not the UK thing... still trying to figure that out...
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I'll take one of each of those items as well. Thank yooouuu.
That green top and those rain boots are TO DIE FOR! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteboots boots boots!
ReplyDeleteand i had no idea englandish brit stuff was so confusing! i guess everywhere is weird.
the pants in the first picture and the rain boots please! since I'm not allowed to shop Zara online in the US. ugh
ReplyDeleteI almost just left you a comment that sounded like I was encouraging you to sleep with your boyfriend in order to get clothes... instead I am telling you I used my better judgment to delete those sentences.
ReplyDeleteUm, so yeah... pretty clothes. :)
I could always tell Northern England accents from Southern England accents because I could barely understand anyone from Northern England.
ReplyDeleteOf course I had a hard time understanding people from any part of the UK at first. There usually was like a 3 to 5 second delay in their speaking and my understanding.
But Northerners... incomprehensible.
Duck.
I love Zara. And boots.
ReplyDeleteI am also an idiot, I knew something about the UK being many "Kingdoms" and yada yada but I still thought British = UK.. yeah... anyways :)
I totally need all of these things for myself.
ReplyDeleteBack to school shopping, eh?! I miss those days :)
ReplyDeleteI am still confused about the UK...
I was just looking at Zara the other day too and I picked out quite a few of these. We're all going to be twins, walking Zara ads, except for we won't because of their silly prices. Your loss, Zara, your loss.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the explanation of UK, I think I'm more confused than I was before living in my little bubble of not knowing what the UK meant. I hope no one ever asks me what it means, because it would not be pretty!
;)
the olive green collared shirt...get on my body.
ReplyDeleteDrooling over clothes.
ReplyDeleteJearous of your move to Scotland.
When I looked up zara yesterday and saw that green top, I seriously thought of you when I saw it. And look at that! It's one of the ones you want. (its like I know you..but don't)
ReplyDeleteEmily w/Amazing Grapes
Zara... swoon! One store in NYC is still too far for me. My jealousy abounds. Plus, those leather pants? To. Die. For.
ReplyDeleteI support your hopeful online shopping technique of just putting everything in the cart. I do exaaaactly the same thing.
whatever those slouchy pants are. I need them. Badly.
ReplyDeleteZara, you are mine today.
You are moving to Scotland? I must catch up on your posts! I am applying to a few Scottish schools for my MLitt next year!! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny that you posted this. I went through the Zara online catalog this morning! In. Love. I'm actually going to Zara tomorrow afternoon to pick up a couple of things.

UK/England/GB has always confused me...
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm ALL about chunky knit sweaters like the first two. I love me some fall<3
good post title...clever! :)
ReplyDeleteLove, Love, Love the green top and boots below it. I have been reading for sometime and you make my day when you post something new! You inspired me to start a blog/my own journal!
ReplyDeleteHave fun on the move!
Great picks! I love that green blouse and the first pair of boots!
ReplyDeletei love zara.
ReplyDelete#briefestcommentever
Ah yes, good old UK terminology! Takes stinking YEARS to get used to. Like when you're in California I did not know that The Valley doesn't necessarily mean Nappa Valley. And that L.A. is purely overated. As our "British" accents and their variations.
ReplyDeleteI'm boring myself to tears.
You gotta slap me back to my senses Meg!
Yay for idiots! I love the tall patent boot guys, that green sheer button up blouse (which I found in a bright ass orange-y color on Saturday at F21...and I loooove), and also that first blue sweater thing.
ReplyDeletexo- Jet
what the hell. just give it one name. or something. jeez.
ReplyDeleteand umm. those are fall clothes. i'd like to keep the warm summer weather thankyouverymuch.
Um, no lie I just read that last little part about 7 times and all I get out of it is...nothing.
ReplyDeleteI thought England was Britain, was Europe, was the UK. Etc?
Whew.
LOL - This post has been quite educational. I knew some about UK x Britain, but I just learned more. You know one thing that I don't understand? Why on international soccer games only England plays, but on the World Cup is United Kingdom? Or do Ireland and Wales have their own national soccer teams too and I've never seen it? :O
ReplyDeleteSee, this whole thing is just too confusing. You should come back to SoCal and bring your bf with you. Problem solved.
gaaaah, if it ever actually got cold here I'd want to wear all of those!! good taste.
ReplyDeleteI will have to stick to bathing suits and my birthday suit!
I think I sort of get what you just explained. It is soooo complicated though. Maybe once I am in a situation where caring and knowing this is a desperate need the part of my mind that is closed to completely comprehending everything will open and be unlocked and I can say OH YEAHHHH....
ReplyDeleteBut I am no liar. So I will not be saying that to you.
The fact that you can't get to ireland by driving because it is surrounded by water really pisses a part of me off that wanted to go to the UK and just walk over to Ireland and Spain and Italy. I guess I'll have to replan that imaginary vacation of mine. Along with reinvesting that imaginary 10000 grand that would have covered the trip....
sorry for the lengthy thought.
Love you and so glad I get to sneak on here and read your blog.
Zara is so amazing but they really don't look good on curvier women. CheChe's hips are so sad about that.

Ooooh that red shirt.. <3 I might just go back to Zara today.
ReplyDeleteOh and. There's an hilarious Youtube videos about accents. I understand the southern British accents. It gets trickier in Northern Britain.
I used to work for Air France and I remember dreading the flights to Ireland and Scotland because I had to concentrate and hope for key words in order to understand the passengers ;)
I get so confused about the UK/England/and everything on that side of the world ;) everything looks so comfy that you picked out! Thanks for the bday wishes lovely :)
ReplyDeleteFound you from your guest post at Mariel's. This post made me laugh, and when I have time to wrap my brain around it I'll try to do just that lol. The accents make sense though - just like we have California, New York, and Southern accents in the US.
ReplyDeleteLOVE these oversized pieces...so comfy! (and no one will know if i eat another pumpkin muffin ;-))
ReplyDeleteWow I love those outfits. The boots...ahh!! About died. I wish I could live in the UK. Jealous ;)
ReplyDeletexo.

I started off just daydreaming about wearing fall skinnies and boots. Then felt like I was learning something I should know and now I'm still confused.
ReplyDeleteI am truly confused now. Utterly confused.
ReplyDeleteAlso, that dress? And the last top? So gorgeous!
This social studies teacher is relieved & embarassed that you had to tell me that.
ReplyDeleteHmm. Don't tell my students.
OR do you want to come guest speak & explain it to them?!
Love, Leigh
Ok ok I will. Get on your body. Jesh.
ReplyDeleteok wait. you can DRIVE to ireland? i live under a rock.
ReplyDeleteAwesome taste! Buy it all! Okay... Unrealistic... Just the really, really good ones.
ReplyDeleteFortunately for me my Grandmother is from England (thus my name being Windsor) so I am familiar with accents, geography, terminology. Now it was another story when I was asking my friend who is Jamaican questions about Jamaica (I sounded like an idiot!).
ReplyDeleteAs for the clothes in your basket I love the skinny black jeans with the black top and the black bootie - just my style.
Have a great day in the UK!
xxoo,
Windsor
