Hey friends.
I have missed you.
My absence will be explained in a later post.
Because its really boring.
It involves neurosciency stuff.
Do you all remember awhile back when I posted a vlog and had you ask me questions?
And then i got like 30 questions and posted a vlog and answered like 3..
then sorta stopped...
Well i thought maybe it is time to answer some of the questions
since there are a few i still frequently get here and there.
Most of the questions had to due with the whole modeling thing.
So here it goes.
Your own personal tour into my past life.
I started modeling at age 14.
I knew someone that knew someone that knew someone in the industry.
I went on a casting (audition for modeling)
and booked a job.
After that I got an Agency.
Then after that i switched and got another Agency.
and after that I got my first complex.
It came tied up in a little box and bow.
It was a body image complex.
My complex said I was too fat,
too skinny,
too short,
and probably could use some plastic surgery.
It became my new bff that i wanted to drop kick
but couldn't..
because I'm a lady.
So i hung out with her anyway.
I continued to work in LA and Orange County.
mainly print and editorial stuff.
A billboard, commercial, and music video here and there.
After 8 years of trying to fit into someones size 0 expectations
I decided it was time to call it quits.
Move on.
go back to college.
get a real job.
Not that modeling isn't a real job..
I guess it is.
Sometimes you can model so hard your face hurts.
intense.
I know.
I do not work anymore..
except for as a favor to friends with companies..
or for fun with the photographers I love.
Someone asked me if I felt judged because I used to model..
because the connotation is that models are dumb and shallow.
And to be honest,
yes.
Which is why I always wanted to have something else that I did.
And why I continued to stay in academics..
and eventually moved on to get my Masters in Neuroscience.
I wanted to help change the world in a positive way.
Not contribute to it in a negative way.
I Love photography.
I love art.
And i think beautiful images are created using beautiful people.
And I am drawn to that.
But i am much too sensitive to fight for the limelight in a world full of "beautiful" models.
And i need to be using my brain to make me feel like i have a purpose.

You have some really beautiful modeling shots- I was stalking you on facebook not that long ago. I'm know, I'm a total creeper.
ReplyDeleteI love that you chose to continue with your studies.. it's a "big f you" to the haters that you are a neuro-scientist (basically a rocket scientist on steroids) and beautiful to boot. You rock my socks.
i don't judge you at all - you were gorgeous and you worked it. it takes a lot of courage to go back to school and get into the studying grind and maybe not get paid for it for a long time. props to you like whoa.
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing experience, Megan! I love seeing these throwback shots- beautiful!
ReplyDeleteAnd I am amazed by any sciency person since I mcsuck at all math and science. You're brilliant! :)
yeah, umm, being a neuroscientist is definitely kicking that dumb model stereotype in the ass. you must be the hottest scientist there though.

ReplyDeleteHubba hubba- sexy 20 year old! And I can't believe I just typed hubba hubba. So corny. Anyway, you are such a beaut Meagan! Thanks for sharing with us your story.
ReplyDeleteI think that it's awesome that you gave modeling a whirl but ultimately decided that it wasn't where you wanted to focus your energy (not that there would be anything wrong with it if you had). That's what we're all here for though-to figure out where we belong; where we can make the most positive impact- you're doing that and I think it's pretty cool my dear :)
Ugh and I'm such a nerd I can't even post a comment correctly!
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm done :) lol
Wow. Thank you for sharing! And Hello?! Neuroscience?? AWESOME!
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures, I think you look absolutely stunning! But I am happy that you found something that fulfills you more than modeling!
ReplyDeleteI think its amazing that you were so passionate about academics- you are a terrific role model! And real model, for that matter;-)
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing this lady. you are so smart. so beautiful. so funny. you're just great :)
ReplyDeleteyou're gorgeous! I love that third picture!
ReplyDeleteYou're beautiful and inspiring!
ReplyDeleteMan, what is up with them getting the 14 year olds! Once again twinny: I remember after I got scouted, we were doing some test shoots/comp card stuff. My grandparents had to take me, and for the next few hours I had to shuffle around the city in heels and slinky outfits for the photographer. Don't even get me started on the horrendousness of learning to walk in front of the agency owner. Gangly, awkward, and thrown into the industry:-)
ReplyDeleteP.S. You are an example of TRUE beauty! I'm a big fan of the inside and the out! xoxo
wait, you skipped the part where you dated justin bobby? ; )
ReplyDeleterhonds, you are one smart cookie (ven though you're hott) and we all know that. so basically, go do whatever it is you want to do- modeling, nueroscience, the whole gammet- and we will love you for it!!
You are just gorge. But I can imagine that world would be supremely difficult. Plus,In-n-Out and Taco Bell are too important in life.
ReplyDeleteYaaaaa! Good post. Most models are idiots, but the ones that aren't really blow your mind with their brains and wit (insert you here!) Keep it up!
ReplyDeletehttp://www.wanderluck.blogspot.com
You are beautiful...in the brain. See? It worked.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this! I love that people can be so complex beneath the surface. Sometimes life leads us in such different directions, and it sounds like you are pretty happy with where your life has taken you!
ReplyDeleteThose are beautiful! I must have missed the fact that you used to model. It was very interesting to read! I'm happy that you found your true place in the world now :) You're beautiful!
ReplyDeletehot hotter and hottest
ReplyDeletesmart smarter and smartest.
this is your life progression.
You're so beautiful inside and out...Now MY face hurts.
ReplyDelete"I wanted to help change the world in a positive way.
ReplyDeleteNot contribute to it in a negative way." - i like that.
i also like these photos. which i've seen. from facebook stalking. surprise, surprise.
I really enjoyed this post, Meg. (and my fave is that 20 yr old pic!) ;)
ReplyDeleteI can relate, though not to the same extent. I was always told I should be a model, so I tried to put a portfolio together like 5 years ago. It was such a nightmare. The photogs I worked with were douchebags, and I got feedback from someone in the industry in NYC who said I looked overweight.
I weigh barely 100 lbs. WTF? I gave up after that. I really didn't want to work in a world where you're constantly being critiqued for being too short or two fat or too... NOT 6 feet, 95 lbs. LAME!
So I feel ya. :)
ANd you're gorgeous, model or not!
So, the complex...totally thought it was a real box and I was thinking for about 6-7 lines..what's a complex?
ReplyDeleteThen I read the 'So i hung out with her anyway.' and realized, ooooohh, COMPLEX!! (and here I thought you had a diagram telling you all those things, bahaha) ..did you know working in a prison dumbs down the brain?! True story.
BTW, LOVE the 20 y/o picture, has just a little something, ya know? ;)
You are beautiful. And intelligent. And just so gosh darn funny.
ReplyDeleteI am happy to be your friend. Now hurry up and get back to LA. Please and thank you.
Aside from being jealous of how totes beautiful you are, I am also jealous that you had both the guts and brains to pursue neurosci. I love it as well - with my love blooming from a stroke my mother had when I turned 14. But alas, my intelligence limits me.
ReplyDeleteI've found a roundabout way to get my fix though - Linguistics!
: )
I think all of those photos are stunning and for someone to tell you that you were anything less is just plain dumb.
ReplyDeleteyour so beautiful. AND you have such an amazing personality. I am so glad that you posted this. The fact that you COULD be a model and chose to exercise your mind instead of the ego and body image issue the industry tends to feed is such an honorable trait :).
ReplyDeletethis was a bit too serious for me so I'm going to say something typical and light.
Girl you so CRAZAYYY!
♥cheche
You are beautiful. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYou are so stunning. Love this post! One reason I love blogging/following blogs is to learn about other people. It forms such a community and glad that I get to be apart of your blogging world/life :)
ReplyDeleteThey are gorgeous shots! Unfortunately it can have that connotation with modelling though huh. Doing whatever works for you will always be the best answer though :D
ReplyDeleteyou are beautiful! don't let anyone tell you otherwise. xx
ReplyDeleteMEgan,
ReplyDeleteYou rock. The end.
Okay not really the end;)
I love your story-so relatable to women and so down to earth. We all need to know peeps like you. Plus we all need a dose of your humor in our lives:D
Thanks for finally posting your story! I think it's awesome. Those pictures of you are so cute!
ReplyDeleteDo you still feel pressure to fit into those size 0 expectations? Because in case you haven't seen, you my dear are a size 0. :) I'm pretty sure you're naturally like that, but I was just curious if you feel like modeling messed with your head with all those pressures?
You are gorgeous! I love that you're a model turned neuroscientist!
amy day to day
You are beautiful ALWAYS Megan...but my favorite beautiful part about you is your kind heart. xo
ReplyDeleteI've definitely been curious about your modeling background. Thank you for sharing :) it always seems like such a glamorous lifestyle until you hear about the behind the scenes stuff that goes on.
ReplyDeleteMy momma was a professional dancer in LA and she dealt with a lot of crazy emotions and people because of it!
Your pictures are always so beautiful though and you're great at what you do - when you do it :D
You've got a really beautiful face and nice hair. But I think it was a good choice to start a second career, so you have something else in your life.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos and you are stunning girl, but I am also glad you went back to college! Just saying. ;)
ReplyDeleteyou are just way too gorgeous
ReplyDeletedidn't know you were a model but did think you were quite the looker! :) no judgement here. it's life. and i agree that there's nothing wrong with beautiful images!
ReplyDeletegirl you are flawless! i love these photos, esp year 20 your hair is beautiful! I'm glad you did something you loved and decided to also go back to school! :)
ReplyDeletei think it's great you managed to combine both things in your life - that's quite rare. & i find it amazing how you made such a life-changing decision & went back to college! i mean to me it seems like such a hard thing to do.. you're lucky you got both the brains & the looks :) in my opinion you took the best opinion possible! i love what you said in this blog , keep inspiring us! xo
ReplyDeleteThis post was beautiful Megan! I think it's AWESOME that you are doing what YOU want to do. It's truly inspiring. Your pictures are also so flippin' beautiful. A gorgeous neuroscientist? Um...amazing. That's all.
ReplyDeleteSuch a honest post...just wonderful! Most people wouldn't be able to say all of this much unless to the world. You are just great but you already knew that :)
ReplyDeleteoh girl, you are so beautiful. i've missed your blog oh so much (i've been internet mia for the past few weeks..)
ReplyDeleteLOVED your honesty and transparency in this post. so inspiring. and i just love that you are a smokin' hot neuroscientist. way to break stereotypes.

I love your blog. I can relate to your story in some ways. You are lovely and super smart :) Perfect combination if you ask me.
ReplyDeletehow crazy to completely change your life and do something so different! but awesome!
ReplyDeleteand i'm not sure why i haven't looked at your blog in forever (oh ya...i don't have internet :/) but i LOVE the new layout :)
Very interesting post! Thanks for sharing about your experience. I love that you are going back to school for neuroscience. I'm sure you get this all the time, but your modeling pictures are like a way hotter version of Kristen Stewart
ReplyDeletenice post .. you're so beautiful .. nice shots ..
ReplyDeleteI just discovered your blog, and I really like it a lot. I just wanted to tell you that I absolutely take you seriously and the things you have to say. Especially because of that master in neuroscience, such an interesting subject. For one exam in the process of graduation high school, I had to give a presentation on Predestination vs. Free Will and a portion of that was what modern neuroscience has to say about free will and determinism. I really liked researching that and definitely want to take courses in neuroscience in college!
ReplyDeleteThat's really cool - thank you for sharing. I'm a rather new reader, so wasn't aware of your background. I love how well-rounded you are, and I also love your photography and writing. You're very talented and way more than "just a used-to-be model". Keep on trying new things and reinventing yourself - that's the fun of life, right? ;)
